‘YG TREASURE BOX’, The First Episode Without Pretense as YG Would… YANG HYUN SUK, “This is a Total Mess”

[스포츠조선=남재륜 기자] Not even BANG YE DAM can be at ease. The fierce war of treasures with no foresight has just begun!
‘YG TREASURE BOX’ has finally opened through Naver V LIVE on the 16th at 10 PM, leaving a strong first impression on the viewers. As YG would, the first episode had no pretense and expected a fierce competition that will soon come. As a result, the ‘Treasure Makers’ are also getting busy. The first episode reached 500 thousand views on Naver V LIVE. Furthermore, the names of the treasures were listed on real-time searched keywords, proving the heated interest on the program and marking a good start.
The first episode of ‘YG TREASURE BOX’ revealed stories of trainees who worked hard to make debut for months and up to 6 years. With the launch of the new boy group coming up, representative producer YANG HYUN SUK revealed his pride on the trainees during the meeting by stating, “These are to soon to be launched trainees, and I told you I would take appearances into account. These guys are the treasures in YG TREASURE BOX”. Also, the fact that the educational expense spent on each trainee every year is at least 100 million KRW was revealed, surprising the viewers.
However, the reality of the trainees was fierce itself. Two trainees were released for lack of skills during team practice and new trainees joined, going through a series of changes.
A group was composed of trainees with the highest possibilities of making debut, including BANG YE DAM from ‘K-Pop Star’, CHOI HYUN SUK, and KIM JUN KYU who already have a fanbase. Group B was composed of trainees with great visuals including YOON JAEHYUK who got street casted from agencies including SM, JYP, and Cube, and JANG YUN SEO who resembled Shinee’s Minho. Group C was composed of middle school student trainees with ages of 14~15. KIM JONG SEOB who became the winner of ‘K-Pop Star’ with his powerful rap, PARK JEONG WOO with solid vocals, and JUNG JUN HYUK, the rap prodigy, were included in the group. They were mischievous boys but still revealed their sincere passion towards making debut, capturing the hearts of fans.
The trainees became tense as the group performance review began. After the performances ended, representative producer YANG HYUN SUK started to make rigorous evaluations with a stiff face. Towards group A, YANG HYUN SUK criticized, “Is that all you can do with years of practice” and reviewed, “3 out of 10” towards group B. Lastly, towards group C, he made the scene tense by criticizing, “It’s a total mess”.
There were also unexpected moments. Representative producer YANG HYUN SUK stated, “We’re thinking of having 5 members for the new boy group. We have a total of 22 with groups A, B, and C, and you don’t think we’re selecting 5 out of these people?” and revealed his secret weapon.
The secret weapon was group J, the trainees who trained in YG Japan, which is YG’s branch in Japan. All 29 trainees have been revealed, while the fierce competition between the trainees with the same goal of making debut has been previewed, raising anticipation on the next episode.
The heated reactions continued through the real-time comment section on V LIVE after the premiere of ‘YG TREASURE BOX’. The viewers wrote, “I’ll be active as a ‘Treasure Maker’ from today on” and “There are so many talented trainees but only 5 will make it, I wonder who the ones will be”.
‘YG TREASURE BOX’ is a survival program selecting members for a new group to make debut in 2019, through YG’s differentiated trainee casting, audition, training system, monthly evaluations, and idol production. The show will be composed of 10 episodes and will be revealed through V LIVE and Naver TV.
