“BLACKPINK Writes New History at Coachella”… ‘Favorable Reviews’ From US·UK Media
[스포츠조선=문지연 기자] While BLACKPINK had their successful debut performance at ‘Coachella’, the world’s biggest music festival, local major media channels are leaving favorable reviews.
On April 12th(local time) at 8 PM, BLACKPINK left a meaningful footprint at ‘Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival’ held in Indio, California. As the ‘first K-Pop girl group’ to become the sub-headliner at Coachella, BLACKPINK fascinated the local audience by performing a total of 13 songs during approximately one hour.
‘Billboard’, the well-known American music magazine wrote, “The audience were standing all the way where near food sales were located, just to watch BLACKPINK perform” and added, “They were singing along to BLACKPINK’s signature sound, ‘BLACKPINK IN YOUR AREA’”.
‘Variety’ wrote, “It was hard to distinguish hard-core fans and regular audiences. They all highly praised BLACKPINK”. They continued, “People of all sex·race·age including young people wearing punk-style clothes as if they already knew BLACKPINK’s songs, Caucasian couples in their late 50s, Korean Americans, and young women were present”.
‘Entertainment Tonight(ET)’ wrote, “BLACKPINK wrote new history at ‘Coachella’” and praised, “Their outfit and group dance electrified the audience”. Furthermore, the added, “Their performance was live-streamed through YouTube’s official channel and Times Square, New York, so the global fans were able to enjoy BLACKPINK’s performance”.
‘The L.A. Times’ introduced, “BLACKPINK presented the charms of K-Pop and silenced the critics”. They also reviewed, “As they are a group who covers varied musical spectrum including modern Hip-hop, EDM, Ballad, and Rock, it was a wise decision to invite them to ‘Coachella’”.
The reactions in the UK were also heated. BBC expressed, “The fans fell in love after watching the performance of BLACKPINK, the group who has achieved the biggest success in K-Pop girl group history”.
While BLACKPINK’s ‘KILL THIS LOVE’ topped iTunes Song charts in 37 different regions of the world including the US, they recently entered UK’s Official Chart as no. 33.
BLACKPINK, with the rise in global popularity, will begin their North America tour on the 17th starting in Los Angeles. On April 19, they will be given the honor to perform at ‘Coachella’ for the second time.
