BLACKPINK Becomes the ‘First Group’ to Have 2 Songs Certified Platinum on Gaon Chart
[SBS funE =강수지 기자] Group BLACKPINK received 2 platinum certified badges acknowledged by Gaon Chart, which is the representative chart of K-Pop music. They are the first group ever to receive two platinum certifications in the downloads category.
On December 12, YG Entertainment revealed, “According to Gaon, the title song ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’ and ‘Forever Young’ from BLACKPINK’s album ‘SQUARE UP’ were certified platinum in the downloads category”.
BLACKPINK is the first group to receive 2 platinum certifications in the downloads category announced by Gaon Chart.
In addition, BLACKPINK also received platinum certifications in the album category with ‘SQUARE UP’ and ‘KILL THIS LOVE’.
The song ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’ and JENNIE’s ‘SOLO’ also earned the platinum badge in the streaming category.
Starting from January 1, 2018, Gaon Chart announces certifications if accumulated sales of a release surpass a certain amount.
In the album category, certified platinum refers to sales which surpassed 250 thousand copies, while certified million refers to sales over 1 million. In the downloads category, certified platinum refers to accumulated downloads over 2.5 million, while certified diamond indicates that the number of downloads has surpassed 10 million. In the streaming category, total accumulated streams of 100 million and 1 billion accounts to platinum and billion certified, respectively.
On the same day, BLACKPINK’s ‘KILL THIS LOVE’ was ranked at no. 66 on Billboard’s ‘The 100 Best Songs of 2019: Staff List’ as well. ‘KILL THIS LOVE’ entered Billboard’s main charts including the ‘Hot 100’ and ‘Billboard 200’ as no. 41 and no. 24 respectively and set a milestone in K-Pop girl group history by remaining in both charts for 4 consecutive weeks.
BLACKPINK is currently on their Japan dome tour and is preparing to release a new album in early 2020.
