BLACKPINK ROSÉ Uploads Cover of BANG YE DAM’s ‘WAYO’ Following TAEYANG… “The Song is Good”
[OSEN=지민경 기자] BLACKPINK ROSÉ also participated in covering ‘WAYO’, the first solo single by BANG YE DAM of YG’s rookie group TREASURE following BIGBANG’s TAEYANG. ROSÉ reinterpreted the song in acoustic vibes to present different charms from that of TAEYANG and raised expectations on the original version of ‘WAYO’.
On May 29th, BLACKPINK ROSÉ uploaded a video shot in her studio with the message, “The song is really good! Please support BANG YE DAM” through her Instagram. The 44-second clip showed her singing BANG YE DAM’s ‘WAYO’ with an acoustic guitar with a natural mood. The soft yet mournful and delicate vocals by ROSÉ added on top of an acoustic guitar touched the listeners’ hearts.
The video also revealed a part of the verse of ‘WAYO’, which raised curiosities on the original song. With lyrics which everyone can relate to, ‘Why why why / Why can’t I be without you / Why why why / Just tell me why it has to be you / Why can’t we be’, ROSÉ interpreted them in her unique vibes to add mournfulness to the song.
ROSÉ has recently presented a surprise live performance through her Instagram, which made the global fans cheer. Today’s video which showed a cover of ‘WAYO’, BANG YE DAM’s first solo track, which is yet to be released, presented a ‘pleasant surprise’ for the global fans as well as showing heartwarming friendship as ‘YG Family’.
When ROSÉ’s cover of ‘WAYO’ was revealed following TAEYANG, the global fans responded enthusiastically. The clip reached approximately 1 million views in 1 hour and wrote comments in their own languages such as “The more I listen to the cover, the more I look forward to it”, “TAEYANG to ROSÉ, the cove relay by YG Family is amazing”, “The voice of an angel, it’s sad but makes you feel good”.
YOON of WINNER and LEE CHAN HYUK of AKMU participated in writing and composing BANG YE DAM’s ‘WAYO’, while ROSÉ of BLACKPINK and BIGBANG’s TAEYANG continued to actively support the song, which is warming the people’s hearts as well as raising anticipation on the upcoming track.
BLACKPINK, the group ROSÉ is part of, will make comeback in June with a new song. Prior to her comeback, their collaborative song with Lady Gaga titled ‘Sour Candy’ has topped iTunes charts in 57 different regions as well as topping various global social media charts, proving their presence as a top global girl group.
TREASURE, who has confirmed their upcoming debut in July, is a 12-member boy group composed of CHOI HYUN SUK, JIHOON, YOSHI, JUNKYU, MASHIHO, YOON JAE HYUK, ASAHI, DOYOUNG, HARUTO, PARK JEONG WOO, SO JUNG HWAN, and BANG YE DAM. The group is planning to release new songs 3~4 times from July until the end of the year. BANG YE DAM’s solo single ‘WAYO’ and its music video will be released on June 5th at 6 PM, to preheat for TREASURE’s full scale debut.
