BLACKPINK’s New Song Ranked at No. 2 on Spotify Global… Renews ‘Best K-Pop Record’
[데일리안=부수정 기자] Girl group BLACKPINK’s ‘How You Like That’ renewed the best K-Pop record in Spotify, the world’s biggest music streaming platform.
According to YG Entertainment on the 29th, the pre-release single ‘How You Like That’ from BLACKPINK’s first official album was ranked at no. 2 on the Spotify Global Top 50 chart. It is a record which surpasses the previous record set by ‘Kill This Love’ last year as no. 5 and is a milestone which raises the previous K-Pop record(no. 3) by one rank.
Looking into charts by each country, BLACKPINK was ranked at no. 8 on the US Top 50 chart. It is the first time BLACKPINK was ranked within no. 10 in the according chart alone, except for their collaborative song ‘Sour Candy’ released with Lady Gaga.
Spotify is the world’s biggest music streaming platform with over 200M users. Spotify is known as an influential music streaming platform which directly affects the US Billboard and UKs Official Chart.
Forbes, the American economy magazine, spotlighted this fact. Forbes wrote, “If BLACKPINK’s ‘How You Like That’ maintains this acceleration, it will become the single with the most streams in K-Pop or K-Pop girl group history on Spotify”. They added, “The song will also break the Billboard Hot 100 record previously set by BLACKPINK as no. 33”.
BLACKPINK’s pre-release single ‘How You Like That’, released on the 26th at 6 PM, dominated major music charts in and out of Korea with its heated popularity. The ‘How You Like That’ MV also surpassed 100M views on YouTube in 32 hours since its release, setting a new world record.
Fans overseas are also responding enthusiastically. The song topped iTunes charts in 64 different countries, as soon as the song was released on the 26th, which is the best record in K-Pop girl group history. Furthermore, the song topped Line Music and QQ Music, which are Japan and China’s largest music platforms respectively, and China Tencent’s real-time music chart, proving their unrivaled global influence.
BLACKPINK’s ‘How You Like That’ is a Hip-hop track with vocals escalating in accordance to the emotional changes and an unexpected and explosive drop. The powerful beat that keeps on adding as the song progresses contains the message of ‘Let’s move forward and up despite any dark situations’.
