BLACKPINK Becomes Artist with 4th Most Subscribers in the World on YouTube
[동아닷컴=홍세영 기자] According to YG Entertainment on August 17, BLACKPINK’s official YouTube channel has surpassed 4.4M subscribers on the 16th, as of 9 AM. As a result, BLACKPINK has surpassed Eminem to become one of the TOP4 artists on YouTube with the most subscribers along with Justin Bieber, DJ Marshmello, and Ed Sheeran. It is the first record among all K-Pop artists.
The result was achieved in 4 years since BLACKPINK made debut in the K-Pop scene and in 1 year and 6 months since they entered the US market. The number of YouTube subscribers is an objective index showing global popularity and awareness, so the group proved their global influence and wide public fanbase by even surpassing Eminem, who has been active for 23 years.
BLACKPINK’s YouTube success is unrivaled, and their records are untouchable. As the biggest single K-Pop channel, BLACKPINK is adding 100 thousand subscribers a day after the release of ‘How You Like That’.
The pre-release title song ‘How You Like That’, released on June 26, shook the global music market. The MV reached 96.3M views in the day of its release, being listed on 5 categories of the Guinness World Records including the ‘Most Watched YouTube Video in 24 Hours’. The video then surpassed 100M views in 32 hours, 200M views in 7 days, and 300M views in 21 days, proving their nickname, the ‘YouTube Queens’. The ‘How You Like That’ dance practice video is also heading towards 200M views at a fast pace.
BLACKPINK, who celebrated their 4th anniversary this year, has released numerous hits and are holding a total of 20 videos on YouTube with over 100M views. The ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’ MV, which surpassed 1.2B views, is the most watched K-Pop group MV, while MVs for ‘BOOMBAYAH’(900m), ‘Kill This Love’(900M), and ‘AS IF IT’S YOUR LAST’(800M) are also at over a 100M views.
