[서울경제=박준호 기자] It has been accumulated that the sales volume of girl group BLACKPINK’s official debut album, ‘THE ALBUM’, marked a total of 590 thousand in one day after its release on the 6th. It is the biggest initial sales record in K-Pop girl group history.

According to YG Entertainment’s explanation on the 7th, 590 copies of BLACKPINK’s ‘THE ALBUM’ were sold according to Hanteo Chart, which is a Korean music sales tracker website. YG explained, “Considering that the accumulation excludes part of sales made in the US and Europe, we suspect that actual sales were in fact higher”. They have already surpassed a total of 1M pre-orders during the pre-order period.

BLACKPINK’s album has shown high popularity after its release in digital format on the 2nd. The album topped iTunes Album charts in 57 different countries including the US, as well as being ranked at no. 7 on the US Apple Music Album chart. The title track ‘Lovesick Girls’ not only topped the iTunes Worldwide Song chart on the date of its release but was also ranked at no. 3 on the Spotify Global Top 50 chart. Songs ‘Bet You Wanna’ was ranked at no. 4, ‘Pretty Savage’ was ranked at no. 8, while ‘Ice Cream’ was ranked at no. 10, which indicates that half of the songs from the album were listed in the top 10.

As the album has reached approximately 340 thousand pre-orders in the US and in Europe, their overseas chart results are also grabbing the people’s attention. Forbes, the American economics magazine, reported that “BLACKPINK is expected to enter the ‘Billboard 200’, Billboard’s main albums chart, as no. 2”.
