AKMU Renews Contract with YG for Another 5 Years… “Never Considered Leaving”
[OSEN=지민경 기자] On January 26, YG Entertainment officially announced that the agency has signed a 5-year renewal contract with LEE CHAN HYUK and LEE SU HYUN of AKMU.
AKMU is a sibling duo recognized for not only their popularity but also musical artistry. They received attention as ‘AKMU’ by appearing on SBS ‘K-Pop Star’ Season 2 back in 2012, and made official debut through YG in 2014.
Under YG’s full-hearted trust and support, the group established themselves as one of the biggest chart influencers through their gifted writing and composing skills. Since they’ve created numerous hits for the past 7 years, their steps and whereabouts were one of the biggest topics in the entertainment industry these days.
The fact that YG and AKMU’s contract renewal stands out is that most artist teams usually break up or move to another agency after a 7-year contract is fulfilled, known as the 7-year jinx. When the team decides to renew the contract, they usually make 2-year short term deals to lessen the burden, but AKMU has signed a 5-year long term deal. Industry officials explain that it is not possible without the infinite trust between the two parties.
This is proven through AKMU’s thoughts on renewing their contract with YG.
LEE CHAN HYUK of AKMU stated, “Honestly, it’s hard to find agencies that work for its artists as YG does. We’ve never even had a small argument or disagreement for the past 7 years, while the agency always supported us to our direction and led us when we were young”, expressing his trust on YG Entertainment.
LEE SU HYUN of AKMU made a strong comment. She revealed the why they renewed the contract by stating, “We never considered leaving YG, we would rather retire”.
YG explained, “AKMU members are young, but are thoughtful and mature. All employees of YG were moved that AKMU renewed a long-term deal with YG”. They added, “Since we cross-checked each other’s trust once again, YG will not hesitate to support AKMU and will do our best to help them grow and become even better artists”.
YG and AKMU will continue their relation as musical partners through their latest contract renewal. Since AKMU is passionately loved by the public for their high-quality music and deep emotions, the people are looking forward to the new music and activities they will present in 2021.
Meanwhile, YG has also renewed their contract with Kang Dongwon recently, gathering people’s attention with continuous good news. YG manages global artists such as Kang Dong Won, AKMU, BIGBANG, BLACKPINK, SECHSKIES, WINNER, iKON, and TREASURE, as well as top actors and actresses including Kim Heeae, Cha Seungwon, Choi Jiwoo, Jang Hyunsung, Yoo Inna, Jung Hyeyoung, Lee Sungkyung, Jang Kiyong, Lee Suhyuk, Kyung Sujin, Son Hojun, and Kal Sowon.
