TREASURE Selected as the Fastest Rising K-Pop Artist of 2020… Proves Global Popularity
[OSEN=지민경 기자] YG’s rookie group TREASURE was selected as the fastest rising K-Pop artist of 2020, proving their global popularity once again.
According to Twitter’s 2020 K-Pop report announced on the 4th, TREASURE was ranked at no. 1 on the ‘TOP 10 fastest-rising K-Pop artists in the world’ category.
Furthermore, TREASURE was also ranked at no. 6 on the ‘TOP 10 most mentioned K-pop artists in the world’, which was the highest rank among all rookie artists.
The rank is based on Twitter’s data accumulated from January 1, 2020 until December 31. Considering that TREASURE has made debut last year on August 7, the index proves how remarkable TREASURE has been for the past 6 months.
Twitter is one of the representative global social communities. There were 6.7B tweets regarding K-Pop made in the year 2020. The country with the biggest number of K-Pop fans was Japan, while countries including the US, Indonesia, Korea, Philippines, and Brazil followed.
The fact that there are 4 Japanese members in TREASURE is the background of their popularity, and is the reason why we look forward to their future growth potential.
Under YG’s fast and concentrated strategy, TREASURE has achieved a milestone of surpassing over 1M in album sales with ‘THE FIRST STEP SERIES’. The sales made in Japan and Korea account for 26% of total sales, respectively.
With their successful activities and the fans’ support, TREASURE received rookie awards at numerous major award ceremonies, and are currently scheduled to make official Japanese debut on March 31.
