BLACKPINK Is Coming Back “To Comeback in August + World Tour of Largest Scale”
[스타뉴스=윤상근 기자] Girl group BLACKPINK is finally set to make a comeback. Expectations are running high on what kind of change they’ll bring to the global music scene in the second half off 2022, as it’s the return of YG’s representative artist, and the current best K-POP girl group.
According to YG Entertainment on the 6th, BLACKPINK is in the last stages of recording for their new album. They will start shooting their M/V in mid-July and plan on taking over this summer with their new song in August.
YG said, “We prepared a number of songs that’s full of BLACKPINK’s characteristics, and they’ve been working on it really hard. Along with the comeback, BLACKPINK will also go on a world tour of the largest scale as a K-POP girl group until the end of the year, to expand interaction with fans from all around the world. We’ll continuously carry out large-scale projects that can live up to their status.”
BLACKPINK’s return as a whole group comes in about a year and 10 months. Ahead of the release of their first full album ‘THE ALBUM’ back in 2020, the group had release their pre-release title ‘How You Like That’, and a special collaboration song, ‘’Ice Cream’, running the road of popularity.
Even though their activities were restricted due to the spread of COVID-19 at the time, the group garnered explosive responses from global fans with just their music and M/V, and renewed most of their ‘first·best·most’ titles they established as a girl group.
Also, BLACKPINK’s first full album, which featured “Lovesick Girls” as the title, sold more than 1.4 million copies in total, making them the first K-pop girl group to become a million seller (based on Hanteo/Gaon chart). The album marked its presence clear in the global market by placing 2nd on U.S.‘ Billboard 200 Chart and UK’s Official Chart, two of the most mainstream music charts.
ROSÉ and LISA’s solo albums released in 2021 also took over major global charts, setting new records just as much as the group’s first full album. Their albums were a living proof of BLACKPINK’s status and presence, which now goes beyond South Korea and Asia to the mainstream pop market.
Meanwhile, BLACKPINK’s official YouTube channel has more than 75 million subscribers, ranking first among male and female artists around the world. The group and each members have a total of 380 million Instagram followers.
