[OSEN=김채연 기자] YG’s rookie girl group, BABYMONSTER, is attracting attention as a “monster rookie” with both talent and talk, breaking new K-POP records despite not having debuted yet.

According to YG Entertainment on the 7th, BABYMONSTER’s official YouTube channel surpassed 2 million subscribers at 3:12 PM the previous day. It took only 129 days since the channel was established on December 28th last year, making it the shortest time ever for a K-POP girl group.

The number of subscribers on YouTube, which leads the global music market, is an indicator of a loyal fandom. This is a notable sign of global music fans’ extraordinary expectations for BABYMONSTER, a new artist prepared by YG over a long period.

This feat is particularly significant because they are still trainees who have not officially debuted yet. The accomplishment was achieved solely through pre-debut content such as individual introductions of the seven potential members, performance videos, live covers, and debut reality shows.

Fueled by the hot interest, BABYMONSTER and YG’s official YouTube channel content have accumulated nearly 400 million views.

Not only global fans but also influential foreign media are focusing on BABYMONSTER. The American music magazine Billboard selected them as “K-POP artists to watch” and predicted a positive response, saying they will “bring a new wave to the K-POP genre.” In addition, global pop star Charlie Puth praised AHYEON’s cover of ‘Dangerously’ with “I loved it.”

Meanwhile, BABYMONSTER is YG’s first rookie girl group in about seven years since BLACKPINK. The group is receiving global music market expectations as ‘all-rounders’ with vocals, dance, rap, and visuals. The final debut members, consisting of three Koreans (AHYEON, HARAM, RORA), two Thais (PHARITA, CHIQUITA), and two Japanese (RUKA, ASA), will be announced at 0:00 on the 12th.
