YG Goes All-In Promoting BABYMONSTER… It’s Now an Asia Tour
[스포츠동아=허민녕 기자] It’s as if a long-standing blockage has finally been cleared. YG’s relentless push, reminiscent of the early days of BIGBANG and BLACKPINK, feels like an all-out offensive, embodying the modern mantra of “full-on attack.” After a period of relative quiet, YG Entertainment is making waves with the comeback of the “monster rookie” girl group BABYMONSTER, engaging in a wide-reaching promotional blitz that harks back to its heyday.
BABYMONSTER, previously shrouded in mystery and seen only in music videos, has taken a significant step out of the shadows by announcing an ambitious Asia tour. This move not only breaks from their prior exclusivity but also sets them apart as a heavyweight contender right from the start. The tour, titled “BABYMONSTER PRESENTS: SEE YOU THERE,” is slated for the first half of the year and will include major cities across Asia such as Tokyo, Jakarta, Singapore, Taipei, and Bangkok.
The attention is not just on the tour but also on the size of the venues, which will escalate from arenas to stadiums based on ticket sales. This strategy will test their real-world popularity, especially given their songs have already amassed millions of views on YouTube, indicating their potential to draw large crowds.
The launch of BABYMONSTER’s comeback begins with the release of their first physical album on April 1. In addition to the title track “SHEESH,” which reflects YG’s hip-hop roots, the album will also feature “LIKE THAT,” a song by global pop sensation Charlie Puth, further fueling anticipation.
This year marked a turning point for YG, transitioning from online to in-person activities. The group welcomed back AHYEON, the “center of the group,” whose initial debut was delayed due to health issues, completing BABYMONSTER as a seven-member ensemble ready to take on the world.
