The Birth of BABYMONSTER….The Essence and Mastery of YG, Crafted by YANG HYUN SUK
[OSEN=장우영 기자] YANG HYUN SUK, the YG ENTERTAINMENT Chief Executive Producer, has harnessed his knack and expertise to create a colossal force known as BABYMONSTER.
Since their debut on April 1 last year, BABYMONSTER, comprising RUKA, PHARITA, ASA, AHYEON, RAMI, RORA, and CHIQUITA, is nearing their first anniversary and their impact is undeniable. Their tracks have consistently charted, thanks to a major world tour that has bolstered their presence among global fans. Analysts credit not only BABYMONSTER’s unique charm but also YANG HYUN SUK’s exceptional prowess.
Selected from thousands, these elite members spent the past four years undergoing intensive training at YG, marking BABYMONSTER as YG ENTERTAINMENT’s first group debut in about seven years since BLACKPINK. They announced their arrival with hits like ‘BATTER UP’ and ‘SHEESH,’ quickly establishing themselves as monster rookies in the industry.
Recognized as a ‘hexagonal girl group’ that excels in visuals, live performances, and dynamic stage presence, BABYMONSTER has repeatedly captured attention for their live prowess, becoming known as the strongest live performers among their peers. With their unique vocal tones, powerful volume, and dynamic rapping, their rapid growth was naturally the next step.
This swift rise has been evident in their career trajectory, with BABYMONSTER releasing their first studio album faster than any other newcomer under YG ENTERTAINMENT. Their debut year alone boasted nearly 1.6 million album sales, a string of music videos garnering over 100 million views each, sustained chart presence, and entering the ‘Billboard 200.’
Just nine months into their debut, they embarked on their first world tour, ‘HELLO MONSTER,’ starting at the KSPO DOME (formerly Gymnastics Arena). Last month, BABYMONSTER entered arena-sized venues, accommodating over 10,000 fans per show, and met with overwhelming enthusiasm during their North American tour with stops in Newark, Los Angeles, and more. Fueled by the fervent response, they extended their tour to include 20 cities and 29 performances. Starting from March 14, they will meet Asian fans in Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Ho Chi Minh City, Bangkok, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, and Taipei, and later this year, they will continue their second North American tour in Toronto, Rosemont, Atlanta, Fort Worth, Oakland, and Seattle.
YANG HYUN SUK, the YG Executive Producer, watches these developments with pride. Under his leadership, BABYMONSTER has not only showcased YANG’s discerning eye but also reaffirmed his style, expertise, and leadership.
YANG HYUN SUK has been instrumental in bringing to life music sensations such as JINUSEAN, 1TYM, BIGBANG, 2NE1, WINNER, and BLACKPINK. Returning as a producer in 2023, he has ensured that BABYMONSTER, unlike previous groups that went through Teddy’s hands, reflects the core values of YG by focusing on the essence of music and the inherent charm of its members.
Under YANG’s leadership, BABYMONSTER has not only matched but exceeded the achievements of their label seniors, growing into a truly ‘monster’-sized group that has everyone eager to see their next move.
