YANG HYUN-SUK: “SEUNGRI did his best, and is on the road to success… I have much to learn from him” (Interview)
[스타뉴스 길혜성 기자] YG Entertainment’s founder YANG HYUN-SUK showed his high expectations for SEUNGRI from BIGBANG, who is to make a solo comeback soon. CEO YANG did not hold back on complementing SEUNGRI.
In the afternoon of August 15, CEO YANG told Star News, “These days SEUNGRI is busy personally editing the music video of his title song from the new album. For the last few months I have been keeping an eye on SEUNGRI, and I can assure you that he has transformed much in a very positive way and is ready to be on the road to success.”
On August 12, SEUNGRI mentioned on Facebook through a long message that the conversation he had with CEO YANG was the biggest turning point of his life.
In the note, he wrote, “When I came back to Korea after working as an actor in Japan one year ago, the CEO of YG Entertainment, YANG HYUN-SUK, called a meeting for me. We had the meeting on the 7th floor in his room. What he told me there completely changed how I felt about music.”
He recalled, “I had nothing special but he scouted me to YG, and helped me become a member of BIGBANG. CEO YANG, as my boss and mentor, had high expectations for me. He helped me become who I am today. When I was younger I simply liked hanging out with my friends. He told me to devote that exact energy in music. When he said it I was deeply ashamed, but at the same time, my heart felt like it was going to burst.”
SEUNGRI added, ““Finally I was able to produce something and CEO YANG was satisfied. That’s how this album was made.”
To this, YANG responded, “I also read what SEUNGRI wrote. It’s true that ever since then, SEUNGRI came to the YG’s main office every single day for a few months to work on his solo album with YG’s producers, except when he was in Japan for performances.”
He continued, “In my opinion, PSY was the most passionate and persistent artist I have ever met until now, and the reason is that his meticulous character when dealing with music gave people around him a very hard time. And PSY, looking at SEUNGRI, said, “I can’t beat him.” That’s how hard SEUNGRI worked on his music this time.”
He added, “I think now is SEUNGRI’s era. The time when he can fully bloom since the debut. He works hard and plays hard. There is much to learn from him.”
SEUNGRI, who boasts YANG’s immensely high expectations, will be revealing all the songs from his 2nd mini album ‘LET’S TALK ABOUT LOVE’ online first on August 19. The album goes on sale on August 21.
SEUNGRI’s solo album is his second one in 2 years and 7 months since his double title songs ‘VVIP’ and ‘WHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO DO’ from mini album in January 2011.
‘GOTTA TALK TO U’, the title song of the album, is fast paced but lyrical House music. Director HAN SAN MIN who was in charge of BIGBANG’s ‘BLUE’, ‘BAD BOY’ and ‘MONSTER’ music videos is once again in charge of SEUNGRI’s latest music video.
Fans should be excited about his 2nd mini album because it stars a remarkable lineup of featuring artists.
G-DRAGON and TAEYANG featured and participated in composing and writing the first song on the track ‘LET’S TALK ABOUT LOVE.’ ‘GG BE’ especially is gaining much attention as YG’s new girl group member JENNIE KIM featured in the song.
