YG’s YANG HYUN SUK the first Korean International Power Players on Billboard
[스타뉴스 김수진 기자] YG Entertainment’s founder YANG HYUN SUK was chosen as one of International Power Players on Billboard Magazine.
International Power Players is a line of leaders of music business who brought about significant changes in the dynamics of the world music market. This was the first time this list was made, and YANG HYUN SUK was the one and only South Korean to be listed.
YANG stands shoulder to shoulder with world-renowned music business leaders, like AVEX’s CEO Matsuura, Sony Music’s UK CEO Nick Gatfield, SYCO Entertainment CEO Simon Cowell, and Live Nation Europe John Reid. Live Nation cooperated with YG for BIGBANG and 2NE1’s World Tour.
Billboard not only introduced YANG, but also spotlighted YG artists who are popular across the globe, showing the great influence of the artists in the world.
Billboard extolled YANG by saying he was the K-Pop star who established a genre of modern pop in South Korea when he made a debut as a member of Seotaeji and Boys, along with his achievement as the founder of the agency.
Billboard also wrote PSY’s ‘Gangnam Style’ and ‘Gentleman’ ranked #1 on Billboard’s Korea Hot 100, while BIGBANG’s World Tour attracted 800,000 fans in 12 countries, G-DRAGON’s Asia Tour 570,000 fans, and BIGBANG’s World Tour an unprecedented 771,000 fans. This alone was enough to show their borderless influence.
YANG commented, “Entertainment business is not limited to one country. With PSY’s success, the world turned their attention to GD, TAEYANG, BIGBANG, CL and 2NE1. 2014 will be a year of great success and achievement for YG.”
