New songs at AKMU’s debut: sentimental & original compositions unveiled
[OSEN=선미경 기자] The sibling duo AKDONG MUSICIAN (AKMU) is back. Their vivacious music was filled with the sentiments of the matured brother and sister.
At 3pm on April 5, AKMU held a sneak preview of their debut album “PLAY” on an outdoor stage of Seoul Forest located in Seoul Seongsudong.
AKMU unveiled their entire album. From the beginning a big number of fans gathered to hear their music, and they stayed until the end despite the rain and strong wind. But when the preview kick started, the wind eased and the rain stopped. More than 5,000 people responded enthusiastically to AKMU’s debut album.
The two appeared on stage singing their 10th track, “IDEA.” The evermore cuter and vivacious siblings sang in a playful mood. Their music continued to fill the fields of spring, where cherry blossoms danced in the wind. LEE SOO HYUN’s mesmerizing voice and LEE CHAN HYUK’s witty lyrics left quite an impression on the audience.
The 11th track “GALAXY” followed the list. Their final live song accompanied a goodbye to the audience, but the fans were enthused by the photo-shooting session when the song ended.
For the fans who yelled out “encore,” the duo sang their 6th track “ARTIFICIAL GRASS.” The song that compares a person who lives his life as he wants to artificial grass is accompanied by an upbeat drum sounds and LEE SOO HYUN’s powerful voice.
The songs “200%” and “MELTED” carried their charms on the opposite spectrum. While “200%” is vivacious and charming, “MELTED” was about maturity. The grandeur piano harmonizes with rhythmical string sounds of the guitar.
AKMU’s debut album was pure and bubbly. It gave the listeners comfort, while carrying AKMU’s matured charms as they are. LEE CHAN HYUK’s ability to turn mundane topics of our daily lives into witty ideas was indeed surprising. Hearing it once makes you want more, and the lyrics of all the songs were generally beautiful, cute and witty.
As the two are siblings, the songs suited LEE SOO HYUN perfectly as well, while embracing their pure and healthy images.
AKMU’s musical talent was recognized when they won SBS’s K-Pop Star Season 2. LEE CHAN HYUK was fully in charge of composing and writing all the songs in the debut album. His participation in the arrangement of title songs “200%” and “MELTED” shows his talents as singer-songwriter. Apart from the two songs, fans will choose another title song and the duo will have 3 title songs in total. On April 7, all songs from “PLAY” will be unveiled.
