[OSEN=손남원 기자] YG Entertainment’s Chief Executive Producer YANG HYUN SUK donated KRW 500 million to the families of Sewol Ferry victims.

According to related personnel from YG, YANG urgently held a meeting with the executive management and ordered to donate KRW 500 million to the families through YG’s charity program and commented, “As a parent myself, the sorrow and sadness I felt watching the Sewol Ferry tragedy was simply indescribable. Every time I watched the news, the tragedy made me cry. Nothing in the world could console those who lost their children in this tragedy.”

The personnel told OSEN, “The meeting was grief-stricken. YANG halted all entertainment-related activities of YG artists immediately after he heard the news, and asked for all members of the company to mourn for the victims. He has been thinking of ways he can help the families of the victims.”

YG, where Sean, who is known for his generous charity activities belongs, has been carrying out a donation program called “WITH” under the leadership of YANG for a long time. It is a campaign where YG donates a portion of its annual sales to the underprivileged. YANG recently donated KRW 100 million from his personal account at the launch of “Dream Gift Campaign” where YG partnered with Yonsei University’s Severance Hospital to support patients with heart disease.

The personnel added, “YANG checked again and again that YG is fully and thoroughly responsible for every step of the donation process so that the 500 million won can be delivered to the families of Sewol tragedy victims. YANG has been donating at a personal level, apart from making donations at a company level.”

YANG has always personally checked the process of donation and support after selecting the beneficiary himself. In the hope to provide children with heart diseases dreams, he made a donation personally to the family as part of the Dream Gift Campaign.

In early March 2013, he donated the entire KRW 1 billion of the dividend he was allocated as the major shareholder to underprivileged children patients. Recording the highest surplus among domestic entertainment agencies last year, he decided to allocate large-scale dividends to the stockholders while he donated all of his. “I knew YG has been allocating dividends to stockholders, but I only knew through media that I was receiving 1 billion won. I will donate the entire 1 billion won to children suffering from diseases.”

YANG, whose charity work had been focused on children suffering from diseases, is now back to give assistance to the families to Sewol Ferry victims an also the rescue teams. Such charity work of YG has been a tradition of the company, and it continues to help the society.
