WINNER-PSY-GIRL GROUP: YG gears up
[OSEN=선미경 기자] YG Entertainment is starting up the engine in full force.
Kick starting with debuting WINNER, the first boy group in 9 years since BIGBANG, YG is now gearing up for PSY’s comeback as he films his new music video “DADDY.” YG marked the start of the year with 2NE1’s 2nd full album and AKDONG MUSICIAN’s debut, and passed the baton of success to TAEYANG’s 2nd solo album. Expectations are building up for YG artists in the 2nd half of the year.
The Executive Producer, YANG HYUN SUK, once mentioned early this year that “4 new groups from YG will make a debut.” Thus a new girl group to follow 2NE1 is expected to be unveiled soon. YG’s role in the music market will become even bigger with 2 new group’s debut and PSY’s official return.
2NE1 who returned in February knocked down all music charts and topped Melon’s “Artist Top 20” and “Album Top 20” for 6 weeks in a row, proving their unwavering popularity. They also became the first South Korean girl group to hold a World Tour twice.
AKDONG MUSICIAN that followed the quartet was a huge success as well. Their album, filled with their own songs, swept across all charts immediately after release and received triple crowns for topping music programs 3 consecutive weeks. Their incredible musical talents were recognized as their album was filled their own songs, which was quite a rare achievement for newbie artists.
TAEYANG’s first album in 4 years was a huge hit as well. “EYES, NOSE, LIPS” knocked down all weekly and monthly charts immediately after release, and stayed in the top range for 2 months. His decision to focus on his vocal talents instead of performance helped him hit the jackpot.
With the help of the series of success of YG artists, WINNER and PSY’s debut and comeback are expected to add momentum to YG’s success. Through the Launching Show, WINNER unveiled their debut album ‘2014 S/S” on August 6. KANG SEUNGYOON, SONG MINHO and LEE SEUNGHOON’s musical talents are already acknowledged by the fact that they were the main producers of one of the title tracks “Color Ring.” As the group is chosen by the viewers on a former survival program, expectations for them only grow.
PSY has been travelling between Seoul and Busan from August 3 to film his new music video “DADDY.” He showcased a B-class wit through his advance-release video “HANGOVER,” and the fans are excited to see what is to follow the hilarious clip.
All eyes are on YG to see how it will surprise the music world with its upcoming new groups and the world star.
