WINNER’s NAM TAE HYUN to Star in Drama “Midnight Diner”
[TV리포트=황지영 기자] NAM TAE HYUN, a member of YG’s boy group WINNER, stars in a drama entitled “Midnight Diner,” scheduled to be aired on SBS (Screenplay by Choi Dae-woong, Hong Yoon-hee; Directed by Hwang In-roi; Produced by Raemong Raein Co. Ltd., Barami Bunda Inc.). It is the first time for him to appear in a drama aired on a terrestrial channel.
On June 4th, YG ENTERTAINMENT said that NAM TAE HYUN made his debut as a member of WINNER in 2014, proving his presence as a singer, and was well-received by the public when he acted in a Web drama “Midnight Fantasy” aired on MBC every1 until May 14th. The Web drama gained popularity, with its number of views exceeding 1 million in 10 days. And NAM has emerged as a promising actor.
“Midnight Diner” is also part of the dominant trend of “eating programs” that are getting popular in Korea. The drama features the stories of each character and how they are healed through food. Every episode involves cooking and food, which is expected to have an aesthetic and culinary appeal to the audience.
NAM TAE HYUN plays the role of Min-woo, a hard-working and good-natured boy. “We were looking for actors who we thought would well express the character of Min-woo, and we discovered NAM,” said a drama personnel. “Although he is not an experienced actor, we are expecting that he would play the role in his own appealing way.”
The drama is directed by Mr. Hwang In-roi, a seasoned director whose works include “Princess Hours,” “Return of Iljimae,” and “Love Again.” The screenplay is done by Mr. Choi Dae-woong, a famous writer for entertainment programs such as “Gag Concert,” “The Guru Show,” “Radio Star” and “War of Words,” and Ms. Hong Yoon-hee, a writer for “Gag Concert,” a leading comedy program aired on KBS2. They are expected to contribute to creating a well-made TV series with a lot of fun and lyricism.
The first episode of “Midnight Diner,” a much anticipated drama featuring NAM TAE HYUN, is scheduled to be aired at midnight Saturday of this month.
