[Music Talk Talk] iKON Hasn’t Even Debuted in China, Yet They Top the Charts
[OSEN=최나영 기자] It seemed that iKON has captured the hearts of Chinese fans too.
iKON has swept the charts in China with their new single “MY TYPE”, demonstrating that they are indeed a “monster rookie”.
iKON’s “MY TYPE” MV took the No. 1 spot on the MV Chart and K-POP MV Chart of QQ Music – China’s biggest music streaming site – in the afternoon of September 18. Also, iKON became No. 1 on This Week’s New Song MV Chart and K-pop MV Chart of Youku – China’s biggest video site. Reflecting their huge popularity, iKON became the most searched word on Weibo, and iKON# has been searched 1.3 billion times.
Considering that the group has not officially debuted in China yet, it is most likely that iKON will achieve greater results in China.
In fact, when iKON members visited Beijing for the “MIX & MATCH” global votes last year, so many fans came to see them that the airport was paralyzed.
More than 60,000 people applied to see iKON’s fan meeting in China. Thanks to such keen interest in iKON, “MY TYPE” has become a sensation as soon as it was released in China.
Five days have passed since it was released, and iKON’s new single has been topping the charts for the past five days– phenomenal record for a rookie. As of 8 AM on September 19, “MY TYPE” was at the top of the charts of Melon, Naver Music, Genie, Bugs Music, and Soribada. The MV has posted 3,875,268 views on Youtube, soon to surpass 4 million views.
Meanwhile, iKON will be releasing their “’DEBUT HALF ALBUM WELCOME BACK” on October 1 and “DEBUT FULL ALBUM WELCOME BACK” on November 2. Also, on October 3, they will be holding their debut concert “SHOWTIME” at the Olympic Gymnastics Stadium in Seoul and meet their fans for the first time after their official debut.
