BOBBY & B.I presents “brother chemistry” following the footstep of GD & T.O.P… Why are we looking forward to it?
[스타뉴스=길혜성 기자] YG Entertainment (“YG”), one of the largest music labels in Korea, has played a significant role in the recent K-pop sensation by giving birth to numerous idol groups such as BIGBANG and 2NE1. What is interesting is that there were many male duos among successful YG groups, who enjoyed big popularity with their “brother chemistry”.
Let’s go back to the year 1997, when YG was just beginning their career. YG launched male hip-hop duo of JINU and SEAN in Korea’s music scene. JINUSEAN created sensation with “Tell Me” and “Your Number”, becoming YG’s first mega-hit. JINUSEAN released new song “TELL ME ONE MORE TIME” this year when they celebrated the 18th anniversary of their debut, and took No.1 on charts, boasting their still-hot popularity.
The baton of the success of YG’s “brother chemistry” was passed to BIGBANG (G-DRAGON, T.O.P, TAEYANG, DAESUNG, and SEUNGRI) who made their debut in 2006.
BIGBANG presented G-DRAGON and T.O.P’s unit team “GD&TOP” in December, 2010, and the duo unit entertained fans from in and out of the country, leading “HI HI” and “OH YEAH” included in their first album to a great hit. GD&TOP also drew a big popularity when they released new song “ZUTTER” in this summer.
G-DRAGON and TAEYANG who have been close friends from their elementary school days also created a unit team of GD X TAEYANG at the end of last year, to draw fans’ big interest in a variety of aspects with “GOOD BOY”.
Those successes show the fact that YG is good at creating the “brother chemistry”. Now, YG has established a plan to continue with the success of such brother chemistry that has lasted for 18 years, with the company’s rookie hip-hop boy group iKON (B.I, BOBBY, KIM JINHWAN, SONG YUNHYEONG, KU JU-NE, KIM DONGHYUK, and JUNG CHANWOO).
The two brothers who will show us a new chemistry are BOBBY and B.I. Recently, YG officially announced that BOBBY and B.I will release their duet song “ANTHEM” on the 16 at 0 o’clock, on the company’s blog YG LIFE. iKON will release two new digital singles and one of the two songs is the duet song by BOBBY and B.I.
BOBBY is a rapper who has already been recognized for his talent shown in Mnet’s “Show Me the Money 3” last year. B.I is like the team’s producer, whose musical talent and capabilities are highly recognized. The two boasted their musical talent and skills, by taking part in writing the lyrics and melody of “ANTHEM” for their new release. As YG’s hit-making producer TEDDY also helped writing the song, the combination of BOBBY and B.I is drawing all the more attention.
Music fans are already paying keen attention to what kind of “brother chemistry” YG will newly present with the combination of BOBBY and B.I, based on the company’s long history of “brother chemistry” duos who have boasted intense power of men for some times and sweet and sophisticated sentiment for some other times.
Meanwhile, after releasing two digital singles mid-this month, iKON’s full album and new music videos will be unveiled on December 14.
