[M+Interview] SECHSKIES Says, “We’ve always wanted to have a BIGBANG-like MV”
[MBN스타=신미래 기자] SECHSKIES and YG have created a great synergy effect.
Last year, MBC’s Infinite Challenge brought SECHSKIES members together. Afterwards, SECHSKIES was reunited with YG as their agency. It was a dream come true for both the members and their fans. It wasn’t an easy job, but after being signed with YG, SECHSKIES was able to do their music in a more comfortable environment.
Then, they released a song titled “THREE WORDS”, which was up high on the charts for quite some time, and even held a concert.
“What is different now when we do concerts is that there are more cameras now. Of course, SUWON and JIWON are used to this. But for the rest of us, the sheer number of cameras was nerve wrecking. That’s how much the system changed. The recording equipments are very state-of-the-art and it made it easier to record songs.” (KANG SUNGHOON)
“We are now part of a major agency called YG. YG really invests in its artists. I’m so happy we could have that. This year is our 20th anniversary, and I feel as if we’re setting a milestone. In the past, we’re just an idol group. But now, we’re becoming a true artist that YG hopes to achieve.”(LEE JAIJIN)
SECHSKIES members were very satisfied with how the music turned out. But they’ve somewhat given up on dancing as energetically on the stage as the 20-year old idol groups. EUN JINWON already revealed that he can’t dance well on Infinite Challenge because of his knee injury. He’s better now, but he still needs to be careful. The rest of the members can’t dance the same as 20 years ago. However, SECHSKIES was very comfortable with the fact and even made jokes about it.
“We don’t do synchronized group dances like any other idol groups to differentiate ourselves from them. Each member has a different style of dancing. You might think that one of us got the moves wrong, but actually that’s exactly what he was aiming for. We each interpret the dance in our own way, so that’s why it’s all different.” (EUN JIWON)

“Even one rehearsal is enough to make us out of breath.” (LEE JAIJIN)
“We’re not that strong any more, and we practice hard in short sessions.”(JANG SUWON)
“I’m glad the song only lasts for three minutes. I could pour everything in those three minutes.” (EUN JIWON)
All the members were very satisfied with the music videos for their new songs “BE WELL” and “SAD SONG” because they had never had a proper music video 20 years ago.
“I was so happy when the director even cared about the smallest details when we were shooting the ‘BE WELL’ music video. He could have just let it go, but he really cared about the details too. So, there are scenes in the music video only some people might get.” (KIM JAEDUCK)
“I’m so happy that we’ve joined YG and released an album. We didn’t have to worry about the music video, and that was a great relief.”(EUN JIWON)
“I’ve always wanted a proper music video. I always envied BIGBANG and their music videos. I would have never imagined that YG would make a music video for us.”(KANG SUNGHOON)

As the first-generation idol group, SECHSKIES is exploring the uncharted waters, and they are feeling more responsible than ever. From the groups that just debuted and to the groups that are at their height, all the idol groups have their eyes on SECHSKIES as it might just be their future.
“I feel more responsible now that we reunited. We do get respect for being the first-generation idol group, but it’s not all good. We have to set an example for younger idol groups and we have to do well. We had loads of things to think about before we decided to reunite. We need to be cautious, and we can never do a half-hearted job. I’m happy that we are together and we can do something together, but I’m worried about the results.”(EUN JIWON)
