[엑스포츠뉴스=김미지 기자] Group BLACKPINK is walking the path of a world star, with their endless growth in the global market.

After making comeback with their first ever mini album ‘SQUARE UP’ on June 15, BLACKPINK is actively promoting the album with title songs ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’ and ‘Forever Young’.

Like their album ‘AS IF IT’S YOUR LAST’ released last year, BLACKPINK’s comeback was highly anticipated by fans in and out of Korea. The song ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’ achieved an ‘all-kill’ status in 7 major music charts including Melon in 2 hours since its release and is maintaining its no. 1 on various weekly charts until now.

BLACKPINK’s success was not limited to the Korean music scene. The song debuted at Billboard’s main charts including the ‘Billboard 200’ as no. 40 and ‘Hot 100’ as no. 55, setting the best record in K-Pop girl group history.

They proved that they are worthy of being YG’s only girl group not only in Korea but also in the US, known as the ‘motherland of Pop music’. Their popularity and unique musical color were both proven through their recent release.

Their success in Japan, a country with the 2nd largest music market in the world, is also amazing. BLACKPINK kicked off the ‘BLACKPINK ARENA TOUR 2018’ on the 24th in Japan’s Osaka-Jo Hall, which is their first arena tour since debut. Following their concert in Osaka-Jo Hall, BLACKPINK will perform a total of 7 concerts in 3 cities including their concerts to be held in Fukuoka Convention Center and Makuhari Messe Event Hall on August. Their success was projected since their debut showcase held in Budokan last year on July was a huge success, with 14,000 tickets all sold out.

Since the album containing the Japanese version of ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’ will be released on August 22, BLACKPINK’s popularity in Japan is expected to skyrocket.

Furthermore, the group recently confirmed to hold an additional concert in Japan’s Kyocera Dome Osaka on December 24, becoming the first foreign girl group in Japan to hold a concert in Kyocera Dome Osaka.

Their success in two of the world’s largest music markets were portrayed in the MV view counts. The MV for ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’ surpassed 200 million views in 33 days since its release, becoming the fastest MV among MVs released by all K-Pop groups to reach 200 million views.

BLACKPINK is now a ‘world star girl group’ who receives welcome everywhere they go, as the Korean wave is spread out all over the world. BLACKPINK’s endless global growth and future path is highly anticipated, as YG’s one and only girl group.
