Billboard headlined group BLACKPINK’s signing with a global record label.
On October 22 (local time), US Billboard reported, ‘BLACKPINK Sign With Interscope Records & UMG in Global Partnership With YG Entertainment’ exclusively. They also added, “The talented foursome will be represented by Interscope and Universal Music Group worldwide, outside of Asia“.
Billboard referred BLACKPINK as the ‘talented global stars’, finding their global star potentials from the characteristics of each member. They explained BLACKPINK as a globalized group in nature, with JISOO who grew up in Korea, LISA who is Thai, ROSÉ who was born in New Zealand and free up in Australia, and JENNIE who grew up in New Zealand.
Furthermore, Billboard analyzed that the group’s successful debut and second year with songs ‘WHISTLE’ and ‘BOOMBAYAH’ became the driving force for the group’s expansion into the global market. They mentioned the song ‘DDU-DU DDU-Du’ which debuted on the Hot 100 Chart as no. 55 and the album ‘SQUARE UP’ which debuted on the Billboard 200 Chart as no. 40, that allowed BLACKPINK to become the girl group with the best Billboard records in K-Pop history.
Billboard also spotlighted YG Entertainment’s global influence. “The agency was established by representative YANG HYUN SUK back in 1996, and has managed artists with the biggest name values in the Korean music industry including BIGBANG, 2NE1, and PSY”. They did not forget to mention PSY and CL who performed great on Billboard’s main charts.
Starting with JENNIE, all 4 members of BLACKPINK will release solo tracks to present their outstanding musical talents. They recently collaborated with Dua Lipa on the song ‘KISS AND MAKE UP’ and topped iTunes Charts in 21 countries, while being placed at no. 8 in the US, proving their global popularity.
BLACKPINK also have their ‘first-ever solo concert in Seoul’ up ahead. They will hold the ‘BLACKPINK 2018 TOUR [IN YOUR AREA] SEOUL X BC CARD’ on 11/10 at 6 PM and on the 11th at 5 PM in Seoul KSPO DOME (Olympic Gymnastics Arena). People are paying keen attention to the event as it was announced that JENNIE’s solo track will be revealed for the first time through the concert.
