‘Debut’ TREASURE, “Did Not Expect Being No. 1 on iTunes Charts in 19 Countries, Thank You So Much”
[뉴스엔=황혜진 기자] Group TREASURE(CHOI HYUN SUK, JIHOON, YOSHI, JUNKYU, MASHIHO, YOON JAE HYUK, ASAHI, BANG YE DAM, DOYOUNG, HARUTO, PARK JEONG WOO, SO JUNG HWAN) explained that they “did not expect being no. 1 on 19 different countries”.
On August 10, TREASURE revealed their thoughts on making debut during a debut celebration interview held in YG headquarters, located in Mapo-gu, Seoul.
Regarding their first music broadcast debut on SBS ‘Inkigayo’ aired on the 9th, CHOI HYUN SUK stated, “We’ve had performances through the survival program, but felt overwhelmed because it was our first performance as TREASURE. Some of us shed tears on the date of debut and after our performance was done”.
BANG YE DAM recalled, “It was busier and confusing than what I expected. I realized, this is a music broadcast. It was the time I really felt I made debut. It was marvelous”.
Under the agency’s fullhearted support, TREASURE released their first single album titled ‘THE FIRST STEP : CHAPTER ONE’, targeting the global market on August 7.
The title song ‘BOY’ topped iTunes Song charts in 19 different countries including Hong Kong, Singapore, Mexico, and Saudi Arabia. The song was also ranked at no. 1 and no. 3 on Japan’s Line Music and iTunes respectively, as well as entering China’s QQ Music New Releases Chart Top 11, proving their global popularity.
In addition, TREASURE reached 170 thousand physical copy pre-orders and surpassed 1.38M YouTube subscribers even before they’ve made debut due to their huge fandom, which became a hot topic.
TREASURE achieved successful results including their no. 1 on iTunes Song charts in 19 different countries and Japan’s Line Music chart with ‘BOY’. Regarding the matter, BANG YE DAM replied, “We did not expect anything. We only focused on our performance and filming contents. We feel grateful on our no. 1 in 19 different countries and also thank our senior artists who have paved the way and helped us achieve great results”.
Regarding their no. 1 on Japanese charts, CHOI HYUN SUK stated, “We have 4 Japanese members and since we worked hard, I think our fans in Japan responded to it”.
TREASURE has 2 leaders, CHOI HYUN SUK and JIHOON. JIHOON revealed, “CHOI HYUN SUK leads, and I complement the things he missed and support him”. CHOI HYUN SUK explained, “JIHOON is like the father, and I take the mother role. We lead our members together from behind. We try to remind the members when doing basic practice and keeping tension throughout video shootings”.
They also revealed how they selected the leaders. JIHOON stated, “Our agency gave us an offer as we prepared for debut. I think they decided based on our trainee days”. CHOI HYUN SUK revealed, “We had a process of practicing after ‘YG TREASURE BOX’ was over, and my practice with JIHOON helped a lot”.
TREASURE was formed through YG Entertainment’s survival program, ‘YG TREASURE BOX’, aired from November 2018 until January 2019. It has been 4 years since YG Entertainment has presented a rookie group since BLACKPINK. They are the fourth boy group being announced in 5 years since BIGBANG, WINNER, and iKON.
Previously during their debut press conference, CHOI HYUN SUK revealed his aspiration of becoming a group that will go down in history. He revealed, “I said it because I was determined to work hard and go up step by step. I was filled with emotions and wanted to show how hard we are willing to work and move forward”.
TREASURE is a group with an average age of 19. 4 of the 12 members are from Japan. JIHOON stated, “Since we have Japanese friends, we can learn languages and culture. I think the reason we received a lot of attention in Japan is because we have Japanese members who can give the local fans a friendly feeling and approach”.
