BLACKPINK’s ‘Kill This Love’ MV Surpasses 1B Views, ‘First-Ever Milestone Set by a K-Pop Girl Group’
[스포츠조선=이유나 기자] BLACKPINK’s ‘Kill This Love’ MV surpassed 1B views on YouTube. It is BLACKPINK’s second video to set the record.
According to YG Entertainment on September 2, the ‘Kill This Love’ MV surpassed 1B YouTube views as of 3:09 PM.
As a result, BLACKPINK became the first K-Pop group to hold 2 MVs with over 1B views. The video for ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’ was their first video to surpass 1B views and is currently at 1.3B views, before ‘Kill This Love’ also reached 1B views.
There is another reason why people should pay attention to BLACKPINK’s MV for ‘Kill This Love’. Although over a year has passed since the MV was released, the accumulation of views are occurring at a faster pace.
The ‘Kill This Love’ MV surpassed 900M views on YouTube on July 4. It took them 56 days until they’ve reached 1B views since then. It took 78 days to reach 900M from 800M and 106 days to reach 800M from 700M, which is an unprecedented increase in pace.
As BLACKPINK continues to release new songs, it seems that the interest on their existing hits have increased as well. In fact, BLACKPINK’s YouTube channel subscribers have increased by 9M from 37.4M on June 26, when ‘How You Like That’ was released, and is currently at over 46.5M.
Considering these factors, BLACKPINK is expected to continue their record march. The MV for ‘How You Like That’ has already begun the process. The video surpassed 100M views in 32 hours, 200M views in 7 days, 300M views in 21 days, and 400M views in 43 days, which is unprecedented.
‘Ice Cream’ by BLACKPINK and Selena Gomez has also surpassed 100M views in 1.5 days since the song was released on August 28. Since ‘Ice Cream’ is a song with cute and fresh concepts, which BLACKPINK has challenged for the first time, it is expected that new fandom inflow will be significant with the according song.
Meanwhile, the full choreography for ‘Ice Cream’ will become available for viewing purposes today at 6 PM through the dance performance video created by YG and Zepeto, the global virtual avatar service provider.
YG and Zepeto explained, “We’ve prepared a 5-member performance of BLACKPINK and Selena Gomez, recreated through 3D avatars”. They added, “The world’s first-ever virtual fan signing event in advanced concept will also be held tomorrow(3rd) at 12 PM”.
