BLACKPINK’s First Official Debut Album Receives 800 Thousand Pre-Orders in 6 Days… Greenlight On for Setting the ‘Biggest Initial Sales Record’ in K-Pop Girl Group History
[한국경제TV=유병철 기자] BLACKPINK has notified the birth of a legendary album, which will set milestones in K-Pop girl group history. Their upcoming official debut album, being released in 4 years, is on its way to set the ‘first·best·biggest’ records in K-Pop girl group history.
According to YG Entertainment on September 4, BLACKPINK’s ‘THE ALBUM’ has surpassed a total of 800 thousand pre-orders. The number includes global sales. Pre-orders in Korea have surpassed 530 thousand, while a total of 270 thousand(aggregated by Interscope, the affiliated label of Universal Music) pre-orders were received in the US and in Europe.
Whether they will set the biggest initial sales record in K-Pop girl group history and whether the album will become a million seller became a hot topic. The reason is because the figure is only the first aggregation made in less than a week since pre-orders became available last month on the 28th. Considering that there is over a month left until the album will be officially released, actual orders will increase by far.
Related officials of YG have stated, “The limited-edition LP of BLACKPINK’s ‘THE ALBUM’ have been sold out as soon as pre-order sales began” and added, “The ordinary copies are also being additionally produced due to the unexpected flood of orders”.
BLACKPINK is heating up the global music scene prior to the release of their official debut album. Starting with ‘Sour Candy’ collaborated with Lady Gaga released back in May, they’ve released their pre-release single ‘How You Like That’ on June, and ‘Ice Cream’ with Selena Gomez on August, keeping a tight schedule.
The song ‘How You Like That’ not only achieved a ‘perfect all-kill’ on major Korean music charts including Melon but also won 13 trophies on music broadcasts, was ranked at no. 2 on Spotify’s Global Top 50, no. 20 on UK’s Official Singles chart, and no. 33 on the US Billboard Hot 100, setting the best records in K-Pop girl group history. They also won an award at the US MTV Video Music Awards in addition to being selected as the ‘Song of the summer’ by YouTube.
Their latest single, ‘Ice Cream’, was also ranked at no. 1 on the iTunes Worldwide Song chart on the date of its release despite being a song with cute and fresh concepts, which BLACKPINK have presented for the first time. The song was placed on the top ranks of Spotify’s Global Top 50 chart without promotional activities, while its MV is at the top of YouTube’s Trending list for 7 consecutive days.
The track list for ‘THE ALBUM’ has not yet been revealed, but the global music fans are highly anticipating the album since the members of BLACKPINK and YG’s best producers have been preparing it for quite a long time. All songs of ‘THE ALBUM’ will be released on October 2, while physical copies will become available on the 6th through online and offline retailers nationwide.
