YG TREASURE Reaches Nearly 500 Thousand Album Sales in 2 Months Since Making Debut

After making debut on August 7, TREASURE has sold nearly 500 thousand copies of their 2 single albums. According to YG Entertainment, approximately 490 thousand copies of TREASURE’s ‘THE FIRST STEP : CHAPTER ONE’ and ‘THE FIRST STEP : CHAPTER TWO’ were sold as of October 12. They are about to become ‘half million sellers’ in 2 months since making debut, which is unprecedented for a rookie group.
With 4 among the 12 members composed of members from Japan, TREASURE is expanding their realm overseas without special promotional activities, as a group built to target the global market in the first place.
TREASURE topped the real-time charts of AWA, Rakuten Music, and Line Music, which is the biggest music platform in Japan, but also topped the Weekly and Monthly charts of some music platforms, showing a rapid increase in popularity. Their YouTube channel also has 2.47M subscribers at the moment, growing the group’s presence.
YG has made a surprise decision to thank the fans’ heated reactions on TREASURE. YG has previously announced that TREASURE will release 3 new songs until the end of the year, but they have now added an additional plan to release their first official debut album.
YG explained, “Many music producers are focusing on TREASURE” and added, “After the release of their third single album ‘THE FIRST STEP : CHAPTER THREE’, we have planned to release their official debut album in the beginning of December”.
Official albums tend to achieve bigger sales numbers compared to single albums. The people are expected to pay keen attention on whether TREASURE will reach a total of 1M accumulated sales this year. Considering that TREASURE’s album sales numbers were higher in Japan and China, they are expected to become even more popular when the current situation involving the COVID19 eases.
The fans are already paying keen attention on what genre TREASURE will present through their third single, since they’ve presented strong music and group dances through their debut single ‘BOY’ and ‘I LOVE YOU’, the title song of their second single album.
YG explained, “The track is a song of different genre from the songs they’ve released until now” and added, “They will begin shooting the MV for 5 days this week. Director Seo Hyunseung, who has been in charge of BLACKPINK’s MVs, will be directing the first time. Please look forward to it”.
