TREASURE, “First Attempt on a Song with a Bright Mood… Our Goal is to Console”

Rookie boy group TREASURE will make comeback with a new album consoling people having a hard time due to the COVID19 situation.
To celebrate the release of their official debut album ‘THE FIRST STEP : TREASURE EFFECT’, TREASURE held an online press conference on January 11. They stated, “We hope that people would be encouraged by listening to our songs” and added, “In that sense, we’d like the earn the nickname ‘healingdols’”(BANG YE DAM).
The title track of their album is ‘MY TREASURE’, a song carrying the message that we are all treasure-like beings. The intro piano melody and brass sounds create a harmony, making a cheerful mood.
The song is filled with encouraging lyrics such as ‘Don’t worry / Passionately smile one more time / You’re prettier when you smile / Cheer up / We’ll eventually shine’.
The MV also utilized vibrant colors, creating a fairytale-like mood. JUNKYU introduced, “There are many scenes that make you feel good just by watching”.
The song ‘SLOWMOTION’ written·composed by LEE CHAN HYUK of AKMU, the hitmaking artist from YG Entertainment, also stands out.
BANG YE DAM explained, “CHAN HYUK called us and told us that he’ll write a song for us” and thanked him by adding, “Since he also gave us delicate directing, we were able to come out with great results”.
The song calmly progresses while incorporating bass and piano, expressing the theme of let’s go through this harsh world together while holding hands, slow but steady.
CHOI HYUN SUK emphasized, “We learned the strength of the word ‘together’ while working as a group” and added, “Since we dream not alone but ‘together’, I feel like there is nothing we can’t accomplish if us members are together”.
TREASURE also had difficult situations due to the COVID19 after making debut last year on August. They’ve continued their ‘nonstop activities’ by releasing 3 consecutive single albums, but they didn’t get many opportunities to face the fans in person.
PARK JEONG WOO stated that he would like to tell the fans “Thank you for waiting” when he gets a chance and shed tears while continuing, “I’ve heard the fans cheering for us although it was through Ontact, which I was only able to imagine”.
The album includes not only the title track and ‘SLOWMOTION’, but a total of 10 songs including ‘BE WITH ME’ which is a song with whispers saying you should be with me together, ‘ORANGE’ which is a song with a retro vibe that sounds familiar yet fresh, and ‘GOING CRAZY’ which is the signal song of ‘YG TREASURE BOX’, the program that gave birth to TREASURE. The physical album consists of 12 tracks including the piano version of ‘I LOVE YOU’ and a rock version of ‘MMM’.
Unlike usual rookie groups, the members participated in the creation of numerous songs themselves, proving their musical growth. Rappers CHOI HYUN SUK, YOSHI, and HARUTO were credited as lyricists on the title track, while CHOI HYUN SUK and HARUTO participated in writing the lyrics and rap making for all tracks except for ‘GOING CRAZY’.
TREASURE has also proved their sturdy fandom recently by dominating rookie awards at the ‘2020 Mnet Asian Music Awards’ and the ‘Golden Disk Awards’.
The 3 single albums they’ve released so far have reached a total of approximately 700 thousand in sales. Songs ‘MMM’ and ‘I LOVE YOU’ also topped the daily chart of Line Music, which is a Japanese music platform.
Regarding their success, JIHOON stated, “We are feeling the fans’ love and support more than through numbers” and added, “We’re trying hard to make good music as a way to repay them”, while HARUTO also promised, “I won’t forget this moment and continue our activities energetically”.
