TREASURE to Make Japanese Debut on March
[한국일보=홍혜민 기자] YG’s rookie group TREASURE will make their official Japanese debut on March.
On January 21, YG Entertainment informed that TREASURE’s Japanese debut album ‘THE FIRST STEP : TREASURE EFFECT’ will be released on March 31, through the group’s official website.
TREASURE’s Japanese debut album will be the Japanese version of TREASURE’s official debut album, ‘THE FIRST STEP : TREASURE EFFECT’, which reached a total of 280 thousand in initial album sales. It will include Japanese versions of all 12 tracks in addition to ‘BEAUTIFUL’, which is TREASURE’s first original Japanese song and the ending theme of ‘Black Clover’. ‘Black Clover’ is a popular series published through Weekly Shonen Jump.
TREASURE has been receiving a lot of attention from local Japanese media and fans. The program ‘YG TREASURE BOX’ and news regarding TREASURE’s debut have been broadcasted in real-time through local media. The 6 major sports newspapers of Japan and terrestrial broadcast networks spotlighted the group’s press conference and records set on the date of their debut with headlines, “TREASURE’s debut in the global stage”.
Although this is only the beginning, objective numbers prove TREASURE’s popularity and growth potential in Japan. All 4 title songs of TREASURE’s ‘THE FIRST STEP’ series including ‘BOY’, ‘I LOVE YOU’, ‘MMM’, and ‘MY TREASURE’ have been ranked at no. 1 on major Japanese music charts. Furthermore, 26% of the 1 million accumulated sales of ‘THE FIRST STEP’ series were sold in Japan, which is approximately the same percentage of album sales made in Korea.
It is assumed that the fact that 4 Japanese members out of the 12 members of TREASURE are assisting the group’s global popularity expansion. Considering that their sturdy popularity base has simultaneously spread out to Japan, the neighboring country with the second biggest music market in the world, their growth in the future will be beyond limits.
