Psy at #12 on Billboard in just 2 days… But how?
How did Psy chart #12 on Billboard’s Hot 100 so fast? In just two days? It turns out that online music streaming and YouTube viewer number have been the major contributors.
Billboard, on its online article on April 17 wrote, “the new song launches at No. 1 on Streaming Songs with 8.6 million streams registered in the US in just shy of two days since its posting on Saturday.” P!nk’s ‘Just Give Me a Reason’ stood at 4.6 million views, only half of Psy’s ‘Gentleman.’
Billboard, on the same day, wrote an article that predicted the changes in the near future. It gave an optimistic prospect as Psy jumped to No.12 in just two days and counting in the frequency of streaming and music sales, he would even be within top 10 next week.
It also added that Psy’s American debut song ‘Gangnam Style’ has hit 1.5 billion views and ‘Gentleman’ raked in 125 million. The music video, just on its first day, accumulated 18.9 million views, which is a record-breaker for 1-day-old videos on YouTube. When measuring the rank, Billboard will only be counting in the number that is recorded within the United States.
This week’s top was given to P!nk. She left Bruno Mars behind, last week’s winner, with his song ‘When I was Your Man.’
