Akdong Musican becomes a member of YG Family, where BigBang and 2NE1 belong
The sibling artists and the winner of SBS’s K-Pop Star season 2, Akdong Musician, is to sign the contract with YG Entertainment.
Through its official report on May 24, YG announced that it is going to “sign the contract after meeting withg Akdong Musician’s parents, as the negotiation went very smoothly.” The entertainment agency added that it cannot yet disclose the details of the contract.
The reason for the delay in signing the contract with an agency, compared to season 1 of the show, is that the siblings are still minor. Thus all the negotiation had to be conducted with their parents, who live in Mongolia. So there has been a delay in pushig forward the process but YG welcomes the two artists with open arms.
Akdong Musician commented that “YG would be the best agency to support our music and we want to show people great music.”
Akdong Musician has an experience of working with YG twice when they were on the show, and they were deeply impressed by the systematic and specialized structure of the agency. They were also given the opportunity to work with more than ten staff members at YG. Their impression of YG played the biggest role in helping them choose the very agency.
YG’s CEO, Yang Hyun-suk, said, “YG will function as a picture frame – a glass and a frame – that protects a freely painted artwork, instead of repainting what has been done. We are going to preserve Akdong Musician’s pure and genius musical talents as they are.”
