2NE1, one of the strongest girl groups in Korea for their album sales, will be revealing their new song on TV before putting it on sale.
2NE1’s new song ‘FALLING IN LOVE’ will go on sale on July 8, but on July 7, just one day before the sale date, the girl group will be unveiling the song on TV music program, Inkigayo, in their large-scale comeback performance.
There have been several artists who have unveiled their new songs before putting them in the market, but for a girl group who immediately ranks the top every time they release an album, such procedure is rare. And this is the first time they came to this decision.
2NE1’s comeback date on TV has aroused much attention. When the group postponed their album sale date to the first week of July to July 8, many thought their performance date would also be postponed to the following week. But since that particular week is the wrap-up one for the first half of the year, music fans were curios to how the show will be run with 2NE1’s comeback stage.
2NE1 assures their fans that this unprecedented method of unveiling the song on Inkigayo on July 7 first will have a positive impact on album sale which will start from the following day.
The new song comes one year after 2NE1’s last song ‘I LOVE YOU’, which had a trot (Korean music genre; the oldest form of Korean pop music) beat to it. This time they are back with reggae. To show their fans something fresh and to take their performance to a new level, the group even invited overseas choreographers. With the release of the new song, 2NE1 will be seen a lot more frequently on TV and will be performing more than before.
But this is not the end. Their plan is to release one song a month until October. Since it is their first comeback in a long time, they are keen to show what they’ve got to the fans for an expanded period. At the same time, they will be aiming to sweep across music charts every month.
The founder of YG Entertainment, YANG HYUN-SUK once mentioned, “Since their debut 2NE1 has been consistently performing, but because of the World Tour last year, they were only able to release ‘I LOVE YOU.’ So they always wanted to do more music activities in Korea. Hence the strategy to release one song a month – this way they can unveil their hard work of the last 2 years for an extended period, rather than showing everything at once. This will allow them to perform longer in Korea.”
