American Billboard raves about GD: “throwing in more sonic surprises”
[스타뉴스 이지현 기자] The American Billboard applauded G-DRAGON’s (GD) latest solo album for his remarkable rapping skills. GD is the leader of a boy band BIGBANG, consisting of other members T.O.P, TAEYANG, DAESUNG, and SEUNGRI.
The music giant posted a detailed online article on September 4 (local time) about GD’s 2nd solo regular album COUP D’ETAT.
It read, “The BIGBANG wunderkind rapper/singer enlists Diplo, Baauer, Missy Elliott, Sky Ferreira and more for an eclectic set.”
The article continued, “And as the title to his new album may suggest, “COUP D’ETAT” (the French term for “coup”) is about the Seoul native overhauling what fans expect from him and turning to music, and emotions, he wants to express. On “COUP D’ETAT,” GD is throwing in more sonic surprises and musical treats of the East and West.”
On the evaluation of the overall album, Billboard wrote, “Missy Elliot collaboration “Niliria” samples vocals from the Korean traditional folk song of the same name” and moved on to provide more details of other songs in the album including ‘I Love It’ and ‘R.O.D’.
The article commended GD for his attempt as an artist to penetrate a new field. It wrote, “At the very least, G-Dragon’s “COUP D’ETAT” establishes that K-pop stars are no different than pop stars of the West.”
G-DRAGON unleashed his 12 songs, dividing them into two parts on September 2 and 5. The songs knocked down music charts home and abroad in the blink of an eye after the release.
On September 13, GD is scheduled to release different versions of ‘WINDOW’ and ‘BLACK’, on the same day the album goes on sale offline.
