[OSEN=김사라 기자] The sibling duo AKDONG MUSICIAN (AKMU) is certainly heating up the music world. LEE CHAN HYUK and LEE SOO HYUN aged 17 and 14 respectively, are knocking down various music charts despite their young ages, nicknamed by many the “national siblings.”

Their 1st full album “PLAY” knocked down all real-time music charts immediately after its release at noon on April 7, while all of their songs were lined up in the ranking lists as well. Until the next day their double title songs “200%” and “MELTED,” along with “GIVE LOVE” ranked #1,2, and 3 respectively on South Korea’s largest music site Melon. Other songs dominated from #1 to #11 in major music charts, leaving no room for other artists.

It is hard to believe they are just teenagers. Moreover, AKMU showed an unimaginable power by breaking all the records set by other legendary artists and competitive idol groups. The siblings’ confidence to compete with their very own songs is also notable.

AKMU’s song-writing talent was recognized already on SBS’s K-Pop Star Season 2. “DON’T CROSS YOUR LEGS” and “YOU ARE ATTRACTIVE” are two of many songs that solidified their color while expressing their musical intelligence and also innocence. Their debut album was surely enough to fulfill the satisfaction and curiosity of the much-awaited fans, as fans responded enthusiastically to their new songs.

The fact that they swept across charts with their debut album arouses much attention. Selecting three songs as triple title songs and asking the fans to choose the last song are also unprecedented. The shy amateur brother and sister who were discovered on K-Pop Star 2 were no longer simply mischievous (AKDONG in Korean) teenagers, but “monster rookies.”

Their popularity goes beyond the South Korean border, spreading to other countries like Indonesia, Malaysia, Taiwan, Thailand and Singapore, topping their iTunes’ album charts.

The title song “200%” is a rhythmical love song that talks about being too nervous to say anything in front of a person you love after preparing a love confession all night. The other title song, “MELTED,” carries a sentimental and detailed melody.

All eyes are on the duo as they announced the last title song would be the one that becomes most popular, and the music video of the song will be filmed afterwards. Expectations are high for the siblings who brought about a “national siblings” syndrome all across the country.
