[Exclusive] YANG HYUN SUK Speaks about Why Jang Hanna Features JINUSEAN’s Song (Interview)
[스타뉴스=길혜성 기자] With the popular hip hop duo of the ‘90s JINUSEAN making a comeback in 11 years, Jang Hanna, a YG trainee who took part in a singing competition K-Pop Star 3, has been selected as the featuring singer of their new song.
In the morning of Apr. 14th, YG posted on its official blog “YG Life” a photo of Jang Hanna, who has gone through a dramatic makeover, announcing that she is featuring JINUSEAN’s new song “TELL ME ONE MORE TIME.”
“TELL ME ONE MORE TIME” is the latest twist of “TELL ME,” the hip hop duo’s largest hit back in the late 1990s. So far, the vocalist for this new song has been expected to be one of YG’s popular female artists or Uhm Jung-hwa, who featured “TELL ME.” But YG has made an unexpected decision by selecting a trainee as the vocalist for JINUSEAN’s new song.
YANG HYUN SUK, the main producer of YG and judge of the singing competition K-Pop Star series of SBS, spoke with Starnews today morning. “Actually, when she took part in K-Pop Star 3 last year, Jang Hanna didn’t get a lot of attention at first, just like Katie Kim, a contestant of K-Pop Star 4 this year,” he said. “Katie Kim went through a number of crises over the course, but finally won the competition.”
“Like 2NE1, Katie Kim is not very good-looking, but more importantly, she has her own unique character,” he added. “And Jang Hanna has the great potential as a singer, because she is also unique in her own way, just like Katie.”
“Jang Hanna is a trainee of YG and has not made an official debut yet,” he continued. “And TABLO, a member of EPIK HIGH and composer of “TELL ME ONE MORE TIME” asked her to just sing the song for a demo. I listened to it and thought that her voice goes so well with the song, so I decided to select her as the featuring singer for the duo.”
“This new song of JINUSEAN will allow the public to see how much progress she has made, and how good a singer she might become in the future,” he said.
Born in 1996, Jang Hanna became one of the top 8 contestants of K-Pop Star last year, and right after the competition was over, she signed with YG in recognition of her potential as a singer. She is reportedly likely to join a new girl group to be produced by YG.
