YG’s rookie iKON sweeps eight charts upon debut… “Perfect type for charts”
[뉴시스=이재훈 기자] iKON, a rookie boy group of YG Entertainment that also has BIGBANG and WINNER, is sweeping music charts upon their debut.
iKON’s “MY TYPE” released on music-streaming websites on the 15 at 0am, is in the No.1 on the real-time chart of eight music-streaming websites including Melon and Genie.
Such success was achieved despite big popularity of songs of the music festival of MBC TV’s “The Infinite Challenge” and Mnet’s “Show Me the Money”, as well as comeback of top singers including Fly to the Sky.
Along with such record on domestic charts, iKON took the No.1 on the iTunes single chart of seven countries: Hong Kong, Laos, Macao, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.
YG boasted such record, saying, “The big interest in iKON’s debut and the team’s popularity have now been proven not only in Korea but also throughout Asia.”
The music video of “MY TYPE” is also creating sensation. The number of views of the video recorded 816,311 on YouTube. The video was directed by director Han Sa-Min, and the members’ cheerful and energetic moves catch the eyes.
“MY TYPE” is a tender hip-hop song with a medium tempo. iKON’s member B.I and BOBBY took part in writing the song. It expresses the heart of a boy who is in love.
iKON built recognition among the public by showing the process of their competition to become YG’s next idol boy group in Mnet’s “MIX & MATCH” last year.
Notably, BOBBY drew a big attention when he won Mnet’s rapper survival show “Show Me the Money 3” that created sensation last year.
iKON will release “DEBUT HALF ALBUM” on October 1 and “DEBUT FULL ALBUM” on November 2. On October 3, the team will hold debut concert “SHOWTIME” at Olympic Gymnastics Hall in Seoul.
