[Exclusive Interview ②] YG’s YANG HYUN SUK says, “AKMU will come back in April and then LEE CHANHYUK will prepare for his military service”
[OSEN=손남원 기자] YG’s brother-and-sister duo AKMU will finally come back soon. YG’s CEO YANG HYUN SUK talked about AKMU’s comeback and news of LEE CHANHYUK’s military service in an exclusive interview with OSEN.
AKMU recently appeared in iKON’s second concert as a guest performer. The duo heated up the atmosphere at the concert hall by performing their hit song “GIVE LOVE”. The performance quenched fans’ thirst for AKMU’s comeback to some extent. LEE CHANHYUK said on the stage, “We’ve performed on this big stage, even though it’s not our concert. I really congratulate iKON on this concert. I’m a big fan of them and some people say that I and BOBBY are like brothers. You know, we resemble each other. Mr. YANG HYUN SUK said that maybe I can perform ‘ANTHEM’ with BOBBY”.
– Many fans are waiting for AKMU’s new album. Are they coming back after LEE HI?
AKMU’s second album has already been completed and it will be released in early April. AKMU’s biggest appeal is their vivacity just like their songs and lyrics. You can really feel it when you talk to them.
I still vividly remember LEE CHANHYUK’s shocking remark that he made in a recent meeting for AKMU’s new album.
LEE said, “Mr. YANG, I want to go to serve my military service early next year, after the end of performances for the new album”.
“I want to apply to join paratroops or the Marine Corps. Please take care for SUHYUN’s solo album when I’m serving in the military”.
I was so shocked and just said, “Huh? What? Why?” (laugh)
LEE went on to say, “I think I will be able to write new lyrics better after having a new experience in the army, adapting to a new environment and testing my limits”.
So I just made a joke by saying, “You’re not tall enough, so you’re not eligible to join the paratroops or Marine Corps”. It’s been a few months since then, but there seems to be no change in LEE’s decision.
In other words, AKMU will have years-long absence from the music scene after their performances for the new album. Therefore, YG is now doing our best to plan for the best promotion of AKMU’s second album for its success.
