[Interview] WINNER Says, “We’re sentimental but iKON’s energetic. There’s constructive competition between us two groups.”

WINNER and iKON have a special relationship. The two boy groups competed in “WIN : WHO IS NEXT”, YG’s survival show that aired in 2013. The name “WINNER” was given to the A team, who won the competition. There was only one winner, but both groups received spotlight. This is the story of the two boy groups that wanted to debut four years back.
WINNER became a four-member group after NAM TAEHYUN left. We met WINNER members in Seokyo-dong on April 4 for an interview. The members were very excited about the fact that WINNER and iKON will be making a comeback around the same time. When asked about the almost-simultaneous comeback, KANG SEUNGYOON smiled and said, “It doesn’t feel like competition. I think it will be interesting. We’re really close so we’ll probably be chatting a lot in the waiting rooms.”
And they talked about how the music styles of the two groups are different. KANG SEUNGYOON commented, “We’re more of a group that has sentimental vocals and we have to exercise restraint, but iKON is full of energy. I think it will be interesting because our music styles are so different. It will also be interesting to see the two groups competing on the charts.”
The four-member WINNER is making a comeback at 4 PM on April 4. It’s been a long hiatus, and they have lost a member. This is why they have worked so hard on improving their music, performance, and attitude. “REALLY REALLY”, one of their new songs, shows how determined they are and how changed they are. The song is a tropical house song about the excitement of a new love. WINNER will be releasing new self-written songs throughout the year.
