[일간스포츠=이미현 기자] BLACKPINK is setting unprecedented records continuously. The music video of BLACKPINK’s new song “As If It’s Your Last” surpassed 10 million views, in 17 hours of release. BLACKPINK is literally “producing” new records.
On June 22 at 6PM, BLACKPINK released new single “As If It’s Your Last”. The song has marked the successful comeback of BLACKPINK, sweeping No.1 on the charts of music-streaming websites upon its release.
The number of views of the new music video is also rapidly increasing along with the song’s great success on charts. The number of views recorded 8.77 views within 13 hours of release and then surpassed 10 million views within 16 hours, which is the fastest-ever pace for any of the idol boy groups or girl groups in Korea. The fastest record so far was TWICE who surpassed 10 million views within 16 hours of the release of their music video and BTS, in 21 hours. The current best record is held by PSY who surpassed 10 million views with the music video of “GENTLEMAN” within 16 hours of release. As such, BLACKPINK is growing into an idol group to follow the footsteps of PSY.
The number of views of a music video is the most objective benchmark of an artist’s influence in the global music scene. Three music videos of BLACKPINK―the video of “PLAYING WITH FIRE”, “BOOMBAYAH”, and “WHISTLE”―have surpassed 100 million views within one year of the team’s debut. The total number of the views of BLACKPINK’s videos posted on the team’s YouTube channel has surpassed 600 million in total. As such, BLACKPINK is showing enormous influence not only in Korea but also overseas.
BLACKPINK’s remarkable popularity overseas is proven by their records on foreign charts. Currently, BLACKPINK is in No.1 on the iTunes singles charts of 18 countries including Hong Kong, Indonesia, Taiwan, Thailand, and Singapore. The team is also in the 12th place on the iTunes singles chart of the United States.
New song “As If It’s Your Last” is the fastest and most exciting-ever song among BLACKPINK’s songs released so far. It has refreshing and cool melody and lyrics that go well with the summer season. BLACKPINK reveals their lovely and girly appeals differently from the charismatic and chic images presented with “WHISTLE”, “BOOMBAYAH”, and “PLAYING WITH FIRE”.
