BLACKPINK Becomes Second Most Subscribed Artist in the World on YouTube
[연합뉴스=김효정 기자] Group BLACKPINK became the second most subscribed artist in the world.
According to YG Entertainment, BLACKPINK’s official YouTube channel surpassed 48.8M subscribers on the 29th, becoming the 2nd most subscribed artist in the world, surpassing DJ Marshmello(48.7M subscribers).
The only artist with more YouTube subscribers than BLACKPINK is Pop star Justin Bieber.
Starting with their pre-release single ‘How You Like That’ released back in June, they’ve added subscribers at a rapid pace following up activities related to their upcoming official debut album.
After becoming the most subscribed female artist in the world surpassing Ariana Grande and becoming no. 5 in the world back in July, the group has been climbing up the ranks by surpassing Eminem and Ed Sheeran.
According to YG, BLACKPINK has added a total of 8M subscribers on YouTube for the past 3 months.
They’ve added approximately 4.5M after the release of ‘How You Like That’, the first pre-release single of their upcoming album, and 3.5M after the release of ‘Ice Cream’.
YG explained the meaning of this by stating, “YouTube subscribers indicate steady interest and anticipation of loyal fans, rather than simple curiosities or one-time views”.
BLACKPINK will release their official debut album, ‘THE ALBUM’, and the MV for its title song ‘Lovesick Girls’ on October 2.
The people are highly anticipating the album since it will be BLACKPINK’s first official album being released after the group grew up to be a global group by signing with Interscope Records, the subsidiary label of Universal Music, back in 2018.
