[매일경제=진향희 기자] The music video for “MOON,” a track from BABYMONSTER’s third mini album [CHOOM], was released on August 3 and immediately climbed to No. 1 on YouTube Worldwide Trending, drawing an enthusiastic response. Its dreamlike sound, dark atmosphere, and cinematic visuals come together to create a distinctive style that sets it apart from conventional K-pop music videos.

In particular, the video places the unusual theme of vampires at its forefront. Fantasy elements are woven throughout, from scenes of the members awakening inside coffins to sharp fangs and their transformations into bats before disappearing, completing BABYMONSTER’s unique dark universe.

The members’ transformations also command attention. Along with striking styling built around black and red, their chilling facial expressions and restrained movements maximize the tension inherent in the song. Action sequences involving weapons and dynamic performances further add a new image to their established reputation as commanding performers on stage.

“MOON” serves as the finale of the large-scale project BABYMONSTER has presented over the past three months. Beginning with the title track “CHOOM,” followed by “SUGAR HONEY ICE TEA” and “I LIKE IT,” the group unveiled music videos with distinctly different charms and demonstrated a broad musical spectrum. This time, they took on the new genre of horror fantasy.

Their global achievements are also continuing. While all three previously released music videos reached No. 1 on YouTube Worldwide Trending and appeared on the “Most Viewed Videos in 24 Hours” list, “MOON” has likewise received significant attention since its release and continues the group’s successful run.

Along with the music video, YG ENTERTAINMENT also unveiled a teaser poster for the “MOON” performance video. Featuring all-black styling against the backdrop of a dark city and an intense atmosphere, the poster is further heightening anticipation for the full performance video.

The signature choreography depicting the shape of the moon in time with the chorus lyric “I’m the moon” also previews BABYMONSTER’s trademark powerful performance. Attention is focused on what kind of stage the group will present through the performance video, which will be released at midnight on August 5.
