[People IS] iKON Has Success On Their First Try
[일간스포츠=황미현 기자] They have only released a single, yet they have taken Korea by storm. iKON has had success on their first try.
iKON released “MY TYPE” on September 15, and the song has been on the top of the charts for six days in a row. It is very rare to dominate the charts with a debut song and not a comeback song.
Moreover, since music streaming is so popular these days, the fact that a rookie is sweeping the charts of music streaming sites for a long period of time shows that the group is definitely something special. iKON made themselves known to the public through Mnet’s “MIX & MATCH” in 2013, but during the two years that followed, they only worked hard for their debut. Of course, B.I and BOBBY appeared on “Show Me The Money 3” and showed off their rapping skills, but apart from that, iKON focused on training.
The members’ several appearances on TV shows raised the expectations for iKON. This is how they were able to build such a huge fan base. If it weren’t for such a huge fan base, iKON would not have been able to sweep the charts with their debut single. Their debut single also proved that the two years of training was worth it. The easy-on-the-ear melody line and catchy raps form a perfect harmony and make you hum the song after listening to it. The sweet vocals of the members are enough to make the fans that have waited for two years happy.
Being a boy group on the YG label is definitely a merit for iKON. YG Entertainment is known for its hard training. Also, since YG Entertainment’s CEO YANG HYUN SUK evaluates the results of the training himself, trainees have no choice but to practice hard.
iKON has the full support of YANG HYUN SUK. He has been posting posters of iKON on his SNS page before their debut to promote iKON’s debut to fans in and out of Korea. This is the first time that YANG HYUN SUK promoted a group before their debut, and he has raised the expectations for iKON.
iKON has talent, a huge fan base, and a high name recognition. It is not surprising that their debut was somewhat different. With their debut single is already sweeping the charts, iKON is to release new albums in October and November and hold their debut concert at the Olympic Gymnastics Stadium, which can accommodate up to 30,000 people, on October 3.
On September 19, YANG HYUN SUK posted parts of MV for iKON’s next single on his Instagram page. It is a melancholy hiphop song with a powerful beat, and since he posted the spoiler video, it has been getting huge responses. Some are even saying that iKON will keep on dominating the charts with their next song.
A source said, “iKON released their debut single in September and will be releasing new songs in October and November. So their debut is a three-month project. It is very likely that iKON will follow the footsteps of BIGBANG, who topped the charts from May till August.”
