[Oh!SEN Interview] iKON said, “No more survival audition from now, but every moment is survival”
[OSEN=선미경 기자] Boy group iKON honestly talked about their experience of competing in survival audition shows such as “WIN” and “MIX&MATCH”, saying, “We honestly don’t want to compete in survival audition shows any more”.
In an interview on the 16 in the afternoon at a cafe located in Seogyo-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul, iKON talked about what they feel about their No.1 on charts and about future plans.
In the interview, iKON expressed their gratitude for taking No.1 on music charts with new song “APOLOGY”, saying, “It was our first time to work with TEDDY and we’re really thankful that many people helped us and paid attention to us even though we’re still a rookie. We’ll never get complacent and always do our best to give back to this great support and love from fans.”
iKON also mentioned YG president YANG HYUN SUK’s special order to create a song even better than “MY TYPE”, stating, “Of course we felt somewhat burdened, but as we think it is important to create good music and performances, we should embrace such burden, too.”
Regarding their No.1 on charts for three times in a row with “MY TYPE”, “RHYTHM TA”, and “APOLOGY”, iKON said, “I think iKON’s unique and young style, as well as our past experiences of competing in WIN and MIX&MATCH shows have given us an advantage of getting some recognition in advance. I want to believe that such experiences and our efforts to create good music have made this good outcome possible.”
On the same day, iKON mentioned WINNER. “They’re like brothers, rather than rivals,” they said. “Whenever we meet, we play jokes on each other. But we haven’t seen each other much recently, because we’ve been busy.”
Regarding participating in another survival program after Mnet’s “WIN: Who Is Next” and “MIX & MATCH,” they wittily said, “We don’t want to appear in those programs anymore, because every single day is about competition and survival for us.”
“We also want more people to get to know about us, listen to our music, and be loved by the public,” the boy band said. “We are young and inexperienced, and have a short career, but we will work harder and want to become a leading artist of Korea that is loved by the global audience.”
On Monday, iKON released their double single, “WELCOME BACK”. Their title song “APOLOGY” ranked first on major music charts. And “ANTHEM”, a duet song by B.I and BOBBY, is also gaining popularity. “APOLOGY” is a slow R&B song about a heartbreaking breakup, and “ANTHEM” features intense rapping. The two songs have drawn attention, as they are the first product of collaboration between TEDDY, a leading producer of YG, and iKON, and B.I and BOBBY also took part in songwriting and composing.
iKON dominated all the major music charts with their warm-up single “MY TYPE” released in September, and “RHYTHM TA”, the title song of their debut half album released last month, also gained enormous popularity. Their latest single has been ranked first again, with all the songs they have released dominating the music charts for three consecutive times.
