US Magazine Billboard Writes about 2NE1’s Disbandment
[동아 닷컴=곽현수 기자] It seems that fans abroad are also sorry to see 2NE1 go.
2NE1’s last song “GOODBYE” was released at 12 AM on January, and it became No.1 on the iTunes charts of Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Cambodia, and the Philippines. The music video of the song surpassed one million views in just seven hours after release.
In “GOODBYE”, 2NE1 sings goodbye to their fans to sentimental guitar sounds. CL wrote the lyrics, and the great harmony of the vocals of DARA and BOM makes the fans feel all the more sorry that this will be their last song.
The black-and-white music video also features 2NE1 members looking sadly at their old pictures and made their fans sadder about their disbandment.
US music magazine Billboard introduced 2NE1’s music video and wrote about 2NE1 from its debut to disbandment and why YG CEO YANG HYUN SUK had to make such a decision.
2NE1 debuted in 2009 with “LOLLIPOP”, a collaboration song with BIGBANG. The group produced a host of hit songs in a variety of genres ranging from hip hop, R&B, ballad, reggae, and electronic, such as “FIRE”, “I DON’T CARE”, “I’M THE BEST”, “LONELY”, and “MISSING YOU”. When the group debuted, 2NE1 was unlike any other girl group with their dynamic dances, unique stage concepts, and unconventional fashion and hair styles.
2NE1 was also the first Korean girl group to go on a world tour twice. In 2014, its “CRUSH” album ranked 61st on the Billboard 200 chart, setting a new record for a Korean artist. Indeed, 2NE1 left a big mark in the history of Korean music before its disbandment.
