TREASURE, “Fast Growth for 100 Days Since Debut, Feel Happiness Rather Than Pressure”
[매일경제 스타투데이=이다겸 기자] Group TREASURE(CHOI HYUN SUK, JIHOON, YOSHI, JUNKYU, MASHIHO, YOON JAE HYUK, ASAHI, BANG YE DAM, DOYOUNG, HARUTO, PARK JEONG WOO, SO JUNG HWAN) released their third single album ‘THE FIRST STEP : CHAPTER THREE’ and are currently actively promoting its title song ‘MMM’. After making their first step in the K-Pop scene on August 7, TREASURE is showing their passion by releasing 3 albums in only 3 months since making debut.
Through an interview with MK Star Today, JIHOON of TREASURE stated, “We’ve released 3 single albums in less than 100 days. We worked hard on the albums thinking we can show more of our passion towards music”.
JUNKYU mentioned making comeback in approximately a month and a half and hoped, “We’ve made comeback with a new album in superspeed. We hope all of you love us back in ‘superspeed’ as well”.
The title song ‘MMM’ is a hybrid Trap song with a strong groove and is in Hip-hop genre with TREASURE’s secretive ‘mmm’ whispers that stand out. Compared to their previous releases such as ‘BOY’ and ‘I LOVE YOU’, the song contains charismatic charms and performances.
“’MMM’ has a different BPM compared to our existing songs, so we’ve worked hard to present those changes. We tried to express the meaning and emotions of the lyrics in full, as well as trying to present the strong groove and swag naturally. The song ‘MMM’ gathered a lot of attention prior to its release since it was the first Hip-hop song being released by TREASURE, and since YG Entertainment is known for its high-quality Hip-hop songs. On the question asking whether senior artists from the agency such as BIGBANG, WINNER, and iKON have given them advice, CHOI HYUN SUK thanked them by answering, “Since we’re the youngest in the agency, the senior artists always pay attention to us and share supportive words. We thank them for remembering us and cheering us up”.
On the other hand, the song ‘ORANGE’ from the single album is a warm Ballad track with a story of a boy and a girl holding on to time under the orange sunset, since they do not want to part with each other. Member ASAHI participated in the writing and composing of the song himself, presenting TREASURE’s clear musical color and growth.
“I wrote the song ‘ORANGE’ early this year, and I’ve made it in the accommodation because the topline of the song flashed across m mind. I’ve played the beat to HARUTO after making it. HARUTO wrote his rap verse and recorded it, which is how it started. I’ve participated a lot during the recording process as well, such as sharing my opinions. Compared to my previous works, I feel that I am growing since I’m able to choose instruments and sounds that go well with the song”. (ASAHI)
Their fast growth is something to look out for. TREASURE is showing dominant album sales figures in 100 days since making debut. Over 210 thousand copies of ‘THE FIRST STEP : CHAPTER 3’ have been sold until now. Considering that their first and second single albums have reached 250 thousand in album sales each, TREASURE’s ‘THE FIRST STEP’ series has reached a total of over 700 thousand album sales.

On the question asking the goal they would like to achieve through music, MASHIHO and YOSHI mentioned a ‘world tour’. The two members revealed, “Before making debut and even now, our goal is to hold a world tour. We dream of the day we present our performance in front of our fans worldwide”. ASAHI also showed his affections toward the fans by stating, “I’m a person who gets happy while listening to music. So I hope our fans also get happy by listening to our songs”.
TREASURE is expanding their global popularity with YG’s unprecedented speedy promotion and support activities. After completing ‘THE FIRST STEP’ series with their latest release, the group is now preparing to make another leap by releasing their official debut album next year on January.
