YG to Launch First New Boy Group in 6 Years Since TREASURE… Rookie Girl Group Project Also in Full Swing
[MK스포츠=금빛나 기자] YG has raised the expectations among global music fans by announcing that this year will be a special one, featuring both active promotions from its flagship artists and the launch of new groups.
On March 4th, YG Entertainment posted “2026 YG PLAN | YG ANNOUNCEMENT” on its official blog. The announcement included a video interview with Chief Executive Producer YANG HYUN SUK outlining the activity plans of YG artists for the year, along with a roadmap for rookie groups currently in preparation.
Through on-screen text, YG shared, “YG is preparing a new boy group, targeting Fall 2026.” Last year, YANG HYUN SUK disclosed that the company had a male trainee team preparing for debut and said, “I’m continuously exploring and analyzing these trainees. I’m determined to launch at least one team next year.” If realized, this would mark YG’s first new boy group in six years since TREASURE.

YG’s announcement that the year will feature both active promotions from its major artists and the debut of rookie groups has further heightened expectations among global music fans. The outline of the four-member rookie girl group ‘NEXT MONSTER’ (tentative name) has also become clearer. Following EVELLI and CHANYA, who demonstrated polished performance and vocal skills through videos released last year, the remaining two members are expected to be revealed soon.
In the same video, YG also shared news of BIGBANG’s 20th debut anniversary tour and the comebacks of BABYMONSTER and TREASURE. With debut projects for new groups also progressing simultaneously, the synergy they will create across the K-pop market this year is highly anticipated.
Meanwhile, YANG HYUN SUK has been working since last year to improve internal systems, aiming to shorten album production timelines and continuously discover new IP. With preparations now complete, 2026 is expected to mark the beginning of these changes. YG stated, “We will further refine the results we have prepared and bring joyful news to everyone throughout the year,” adding, “Please look forward to the new generation of artists at YG.”
In addition, YG Entertainment has confirmed BIGBANG’s 20th debut anniversary tour, and based on strong mutual trust, the company will join the members as part of the YG FAMILY through this tour. YANG HYUN SUK said, “All YG staff will do their best to create a perfect and outstanding performance.”
