BLACKPINK’s ‘Ice Cream’, No. 8 on US Billboard… First-Ever Chart-in

[TV리포트=이윤희 기자] BLACKPINK’s ‘Ice Cream’ was ranked at no. 8 on US Billboard’s new chart, the ‘Billboard Global 200’. The song was ranked at no. 6 on the ‘Global Chart’ excluding the US, which raised the status of K-Pop.

On September 14(local time), Billboard announced two new charts. Based on the music streams and downloads collected from 200 different regions of the world including the US, the ‘Billboard Global 200’ and the ‘Billboard Global Excl. U.S.’ charts announce the most popular songs.

Billboard accumulated data from September 4 until the 10th and announced the top 10 songs for the first week. BLACKPINK’s ‘Ice Cream’ was ranked at no. 8 and no. 6 on the ‘Billboard Global 200’ and the ‘Billboard Global Excl. U.S.’ charts, respectively.

As a result, BLACKPINK became the first K-Pop girl group on the new chart presented by Billboard, reflecting the most recent trend of popular music today.

BLACKPINK’s ‘Ice Cream’ set records not only on Billboard, but also on various global charts.

On the YouTube Global(9/4~9/10) MV chart which accumulated data during the same period as Billboard’s global chart, ‘Ice Cream’ was ranked at no. 1 for 2 consecutive weeks. The song proved the group’s global popularity by being ranked at no. 2 on the Popular Songs chart, and no. 3 on the Global Artists chart.

Furthermore, BLACKPINK also entered UK’s Official Singles Top 100 chart for 2 consecutive weeks, proving their presence without having special promotional activities.

BLACKPINK is raising the status of K-Pop by continuously releasing new songs this year. Beginning with the song ‘Sour Candy’ released back in May, collaborated with Lady Gaga, BLACKPINK has released 3 consecutive hits including their pre-release singles ‘How You Like That’ and ‘Ice Cream’. ‘Ice Cream’ entered US Billboard’s ‘Hot 100’ chart as no. 13, renewing their own best K-Pop girl group record.

BLACKPINK will release their first official debut album ‘THE TITLE’ on October 2, in 4 years after making debut. On the 14th in the same month, their Netflix Original Documentary titled ‘BLACKPINK: Light Up the Sky’ will be released, which is raising the global fans’ anticipation.
