BLACKPINK Becomes First-Ever Korean Artist to be Ranked at No. 1 on Bloomberg’s Pop Star Power Rankings
[스포츠경향=이세현 기자] Group BLACKPINK was ranked at no. 1 on the ‘Pop Star Power Rankings’ announced by Bloomberg, the American economics media company.
According to Bloomberg on November 10(local time), BLACKPINK was ranked at no. 1 on the Power Rankings for November, with the release of their official debut album last month.
Bloomberg accumulates scores from 6 different categories including live gross ticket sales for 30 days, 4-week album sales, 4-week streams on Spotify, Instagram interactions for 30 days, and 4-week views on YouTube to announce Pop Star Power Rankings every month.
However, since there are almost no concerts being held due to the COVID19, recent accumulations have not included concert ticket sales results.
BLACKPINK was ranked at no. 9 on album sales, no. 2 on Spotify streams, and no. 1 on YouTube views.
BLACKPINK was ranked at no. 8 on the list for October but became no. 1 due to the release of their official debut album.
Bloomberg reviewed that while artists from overseas had to hold local concert tours or make TV appearances to target American or European fans in the past, K-Pop groups nowadays can develop global followings with minimal touring, due to the rise of the internet and distribution through social media and YouTube.
Group BTS was ranked at no. 10 on the list for November. They were ranked at no. 32 on album sales, no. 14 on Spotify streams, and no. 2 on YouTube views.
Bloomberg also wrote that BTS’s success of being ranked at no. 1 on US Billboard’s ‘Hot 100’ through ‘Dynamite’ is making other K-Pop artists dream of becoming the next BTS.
