YANG, “No M/V for AKMU’s new song: A deliberate plan” [Interview]
[OSEN=손남원 기자]The duo artists AKDONG MUSICIAN (AKMU), dubbed the “national siblings,” is releasing their new song “TIME AND FALLEN LEAVES” at 0 hour of Oct 9. The title fits perfectly in the current season of Korea, with clear sky and cool weather. However, despite YG being known for unveiling blockbuster-level videos for every comeback, the siblings do not have one this time. What would the reason be?
YG’s Executive Producer YANG HYUN SUK commented, “As the producer of AKMU’s “TIME AND FALLEN LEAVES”, I recommended this track as their title track of their 1st album. However, we left it out since it suited the season autumn better. It is expected to be a big hit.”
YG uploaded a poster that hints the new-song-release at midnight of Oct 9. The poster attracts much attention with a sentimental autumn ambience, and a caption reads “10.10 0AM.”
He explained the reason for not filming a M/V. “Although it is written by teenagers, I, in my 40’s, could relate to the song. It surprised me as it stimulated me to recall past emotions and memories. So we decided not to make one, because we thought it better if the listeners could imagine their own stories instead of watching a video.”
“TIME AND FALLEN LEAVES” is written and composed by LEE CHAN HYUK, like all the other songs from their debut album “PLAY” released in April. With lyrical string and piano sounds, the track is of pop genre, showing a whole new different color of AKMU.
“Morning and night are cold these days, and the track “TIME AND FALLEN LEAVES” provides a moment to recall your past while also making you very sentimental. It will be well received by the public, I’m sure,” said YANG.
AKMU has been loved for a while with their witty and naïve songs like “200%” and “GIVE LOVE” since their debut. Their tracks immediately swept across all charts and the duo were the only Asian artists chosen as one of the “21 Under 21: Music’s Hottest Minors 2014” on Billboard.
They were also chosen as one of the “21 Under 21” by Billboard, as the only K-Pop artists on the list.
